Unclear display on the monitor

Problem

  1. When a laptop/host is connected to a monitor, characters or images are blurry or unclear.
  2. When using Office software or browsing the web, the font looks blurry or granular.
  3. When the monitor is connected to certain laptops/hosts via an HDMI cable, the screen turns grey, the font is blurry, the black screen is not black enough, and the contrast is low.

Cause

  1. A VGA-to-HDMI cable is used to convert analogue signals into digital signals, resulting in the blurry display.
  2. The recommended ratios (zoom and layout) of the laptop/host system by default are inconsistent with those of the monitor.
  3. The default values of parameters, such as the sharpness and colour temperature of the display are defined by Huawei, based on big data analysis. You can adjust the sharpness and colour temperature on the OSD menu bar.
  4. For laptops/hosts connected to the monitor, the limited output or limit range output is set by default on the integrated graphics.

Solution

  1. Try removing the adapter cable and using an HDMI or DP cable to connect directly.
  2. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the desktop > Settings > System > Display, and set the zoom and layout ratios of different monitors to appropriate values.
  3. Adjust the sharpness or colour temperature.
    1. You can press the five-way joystick at the bottom of the monitor to access the OSD screen, and adjust the sharpness by going to Display > Sharpness, and dragging the sharpness bar. When the font is blurry, or the edge of the font is not smooth enough, you can increase the Sharpness value. When the font is granular, you can decrease the Sharpness value to make the text on the screen clearer and easier to read.

    2. You can also press the five-way joystick at the bottom of the monitor to access the OSD screen, and adjust the colour temperature, by going to Display > Colour temp > Neutral to make the background colder and the font clearer.
  4. Open Intel Graphics Control Panel, manually set the output range of the graphics on the host to Full output, full range output, or Full range output.

The methods for invoking and modifying Intel Graphics Control Panel will vary by graphics card. The following describes two common methods.

In addition, you can display Intel Graphics Control Panel by right-clicking on the desktop or searching for "graphics control" in the lower left corner of the desktop. If it doesn't display, download the Intel Graphics Control Panel from the Intel website.

    1. Open Intel Graphics Control Panel, go to Display > Colour Settings, scroll down with your mouse, and go to YCbCr > On to set the output range of the graphics to full range to fix this blurry display.
    2. If the display is as shown below, go to General Settings > Quantization range, and select Full range.

  5. If the issue remains unresolved, prepare the invoice, check the device SN, and call Huawei customer service hotline to check whether you are entitled to on-site support services. If so, Huawei Customer Service Centre will assign technicians to inspect your device. If not, you can pay to use these services. You can also back up important data and bring your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
