Using the Microsoft Family Safety feature of Windows 11 to manage children's Internet access time and set content restrictions

These restrictions only apply to apps and games downloaded from Microsoft Store. Apps and games downloaded from other third-party channels, such as web pages, may not be restricted.

  1. Log in to the system using a Microsoft account, press Win + I to open the Settings window, and go to Accounts > Family & other users.

On the Accounts screen, if you log in using a local account (displayed as a local account under the account name), go to Account information > Log in using a Microsoft account, and follow the onscreen instructions to switch to the Microsoft account.

  2. Click Add accounts next to Add other users.

  3. Click Create a user for the PC.

If your child already has a Microsoft account, enter his/her email address and follow the onscreen instructions. Once you have added your child's account, go to Step 5.

  4. Enter the email address, password, name, and date of birth as prompted.

  5. On the Settings screen, you can see the newly added child account and click Manage family settings or delete account.

  6. The Microsoft official website will be displayed. Click Log in to Microsoft Family Safety and follow the onscreen instructions to log in to your adult Microsoft account. (Note: The account you logged in here is not the child account you just set, but the adult Microsoft account you logged in to at the very beginning.)

  7. Under the child account you just added, click the More icon and select Go to overview.

To learn more about the function permissions of your family account, click the tutorial video under Your function.

  8. On the Overview screen, you can select options such as screen time and content selector, to configure your child's account.

  9. Once you have finished configuring the child account, you can give the account and password to your child. Once the computer is powered on, log in to the computer using the child account.
