Set a PIN on a HUAWEI computer |
A PIN offers extra protection for Windows computers in addition to a password. It is a secure and quick way for you to sign in to Windows and use corresponding apps and services. If you forget the PIN, see Resetting my HUAWEI computer's account password or PIN.
Detailed operations (Click the following link to go to the corresponding operation):
Add a PIN
Prerequisite:
Before you get started, set an account password. Otherwise, a message will display below the PIN settings option, indicating that the option is unavailable. In this case, you cannot add a PIN.
Procedure:
Click here to go to PIN (Windows Hello) or Windows Hello PIN.
- Click on the taskbar at the bottom and go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello) (or in Windows Hello PIN), click Settings (or Add).
- Enter your password in the pop-up window and click OK.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to enter a new PIN, confirm the PIN, and click OK.
- The PIN should include at least four characters and cannot exceed 127 characters.
- By default, Include letters and symbols is not selected when you set a new PIN. In this case, the PIN only includes numbers. If you want to set a password that contains letters and symbols, select Include letters and symbols.
Change a PIN
Click here to go to PIN (Windows Hello) or Windows Hello PIN.
- Click on the taskbar at the bottom and go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello) (or Windows Hello PIN), click Change PIN (or Change).
- Follow the onscreen instructions to enter the old PIN and a new PIN, confirm the PIN, and click OK.
If you forget the old PIN and log in to the computer using a password, fingerprint, or other method, you can also select I forgot my PIN, and then follow the instructions to verify the account and set a new PIN.
Remove a PIN
Click here to go to PIN (Windows Hello) or Windows Hello PIN.
After the PIN is removed, the fingerprint recognition or facial recognition feature will be unavailable. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
- Click on the taskbar at the bottom and go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello) (or in Windows Hello PIN), click the Remove button.
If the Remove button is grayed out, disable For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended) in Sign-in options, and close the Settings screen. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, remove the PIN, and go to step 3.
- The system will inform you of the potential risks after you remove the PIN. If you are sure you want to remove the PIN, click Remove.
- Enter your password in the pop-up window and click OK to remove the PIN.
If you forget your local or Microsoft account password, perform the following steps to reset it:
- Reset the password of a local account: Right-click on the taskbar at the bottom and choose Windows Terminal (Admin) (or Windows PowerShell (Admin)) from the shortcut menu. Enter the command that includes the following information: net user, local account user name, and new password (for example, net user L3 321), and press Enter. When a message appears indicating that the command is executed successfully, it means that the password has been changed successfully.
- Reset the password of a Microsoft account: Click to access Microsoft to reset the password.
