How do I connect my HUAWEI router cascade to the old router through the network cable and set it as the secondary router

If your old router can access the Internet but does not support HarmonyOS Mesh+, you can connect the HUAWEI router to the old router and set it as the secondary router to provide increased Wi-Fi coverage.

Preparation: Ensure that the old router can properly access the Internet, and that the HUAWEI router is new or has been restored to factory settings.

  1. Connecting the cables: Connect an Ethernet cable from the WAN port of the HUAWEI router to a LAN port on the old router, then power on the HUAWEI router.

If the router features self-adaptive network ports, you do not need to distinguish the WAN port from the LAN port.

  2. Connecting to Wi-Fi: Connect your phone or computer to the default Wi-Fi network of the HUAWEI router (the Wi-Fi name should start with "HUAWEI" and does not require a password).

  3. Configuring the router
    1. Open an internet browser on your phone or computer, enter the default IP address in your browser address bar and log in to your router's web-based management page (check the nameplate at the bottom of the router for the default IP address)
    2. Touch GET STARTED > Extend a Wi-Fi network (relay) (skip this step if you cannot find such an option)> Wired network > Done.

    3. Follow the onscreen instructions, set the Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, and login password of the router, and click Next.( The steps in the following figures are performed on a smartphone, which are very similar to the operations on a computer).
