My computer that is connected to the router opens pages slowly and can't send or receive emails |
This may be because the computer's DNS server address is incorrect or the maximum transmission unit (MTU) for the WAN port is incorrectly set. Try the following to troubleshoot:
1. Verify that the DNS server address of your computer is correctly set
- Click the network connection icon
in the lower right corner of your computer desktop, then select Network and Sharing Center.
- Click Change adapter settings. Right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties from the shortcut menu.
- Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Verify that Obtain DNS server address automatically has been selected, or you have set the correct Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server.
Consult your broadband service provider to obtain the DNS server address.
2. Reset the MTU value for the WAN port
MTU refers to maximum transmission unit, a limit to the data packet size that can be transmitted over the network. The router's default MTU is set according to international standards for the maximum efficiency. However, some broadband service providers do not follow the international standards, and their default MTU values may be smaller, meaning larger data packets may be unable to be transmitted. Reducing your router's MTU value may help resolve this issue. Try as follows:
- Log in to the router's web-based management page.
- Access the Connect to Internet page.
- Change the MTU value from the default 1500 or 1492 to 1400 or less.
