My HUAWEI phone/tablet stops charging when the charging progress reaches 80% (including FAQs related to Smart Charge)

Problem:

  • When the phone/tablet battery is charged to 80%, charging stops and the charging icon disappears.
  • A Smart charge pop-up is displayed in the notification panel on the phone/tablet, or Smart Charge enabled is displayed on the Battery screen in Settings.
  • A Turbo charge pop-up and a Smart charge pop-up are displayed at the same time. When Smart Charge is enabled, touching TURBO CHARGE cannot start charging.

The Smart Charge feature is gradually being released. Due to model or version differences, there are multiple forms of pop-ups or screens. Please refer to the actual product. Update your phone to the latest version if the pop-up is not displayed.

    Cause:

Smart Charge is a new feature on some HUAWEI phone models (running EMUI 9.1/Magic UI 2.1 or later). It is a Battery protection mechanism.

The AI smart battery management effectively extends the Battery lifespan. When Smart Charge is triggered, a pop-up will be displayed for you to suit your needs. It is recommended that you enable Smart Charge.

    Solution:

Method 1: To fully charge your phone now, touch RESUME CHARGING in the Smart charge pop-up. If you touch GOT IT or perform no operation on the pop-up, Smart Charge will continue to protect your battery.

Method 2: Enter the Settings screen, navigate to Smart Charge, and enable the feature. Smart Charge helps prolong the battery lifespan. It is recommended that you keep this feature enabled. (If this switch is not available, it indicates that your device does not currently support this feature.)

Method 3: Touch RESUME CHARGING in the Smart charge pop-up. Then, you can enable Turbo charge.

If the issue persists, it may not be caused by Smart Charge. In this case, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.

① Information about charging habits is only used locally and will not be backed up or uploaded to the cloud.

② The actual working conditions of Smart Charge depend on the charging habits. Not all users will encounter this issue. This feature and its user interface may vary depending on the product and software version. Please refer to the actual product.
