Enabling file/folder encryption in Windows 10 Pro

The encryption function is supported in Windows 10 Pro and not in Windows 10 Home.

  1. Right-click the file or folder and select Attributes.
  2. Go to General > Attributes > Advanced and enable Encrypt contents to secure data. Click OK. Then click OK on the Properties window.

  3. Select Apply changes to this folder only or Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files, then click OK.

  4. After the folder is encrypted, there will be a lock icon displayed on the folder so other users are not allowed to view this folder.

To decrypt the folder, go to General > Attributes > Advanced and disable Encrypt contents to secure data. Click OK.
