My phone/tablet heats up in Standby mode when the screen is off

Problem:

My phone/tablet heats up in Standby mode when the screen is off.

Cause:

Power-intensive background apps will increase the CPU usage and consume much power, resulting in your phone/tablet overheating.

Solution:

  1. Close background apps, wait for several minutes, and check whether your phone still heats up.

It is recommended that you keep frequently-used social apps (such as WeChat, TikTok, and Alipay) running in the background. This ensures that your device can start apps more quickly and receive messages timely.

Note: Apps that are not allowed to run in the background will be stopped from running by default after the device's screen is turned off. When you open such an app again, it may start a little slowly, during which the CPU (processor) will run with high payload for a short period of time. When multiple such apps are started at the same time, it is normal that the device heats up obviously.

  2. Turn the hotspot off. Otherwise, this feature will consume power and cause your phone/tablet to generate heat even if other devices do not connect to it.
  3. Open the My HUAWEI app and go to Support > Checkup > Battery > Overheating/Short battery life, to close power-intensive apps or follow the suggested optimisations.

If the issue persists, restart your phone/tablet and check whether the temperature returns to normal after a few minutes. If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
