My HUAWEI phone/tablet overheats when I use a navigation app |
During navigation, your device needs to download maps or navigation data in real time, and your device's temperature will increase due to the transmission of a large amount of mobile data. In addition, your device will increase the transmit power to ensure signal stability in areas with poor network coverage. The device will generate even more heat if it is exposed to direct sunlight or the in-car temperature is high.
To prevent your device from overheating, refer to the following operations.
Avoid using navigation while charging your phone
The device heats up during charging, and generates even more heat when it is being charged and used for navigation at the same time.
Download the offline map and navigation package in advance to avoid overheating
During navigation, your device needs to download maps or navigation data in real time, and mobile network data transmission consumes a lot of power. This may cause your device to overheat. You can download offline maps and navigation packages in advance. Take Petal Maps as an example:
Petal Maps > Me > Offline maps > Prioritise offline maps
Avoid navigation under direct sunlight
If the ambient temperature is high or your device is exposed to direct sunlight, the device's temperature may increase. The screen brightness will also increase in this case, resulting in overheating. You can place your device near the air vent of the in-car air conditioner and use a car sunshade to avoid exposing your device to direct sunlight.
Lower the screen brightness or voice broadcast volume
If the screen brightness is too high, or the voice broadcast volume is too high, the screen or speaker may heat up. You can lower the screen brightness or media volume if this does not affect the navigation.
Clear background apps that are not in use
If there are too many apps running in the background, you can promptly clear apps that are not in use.
On your phone/tablet, go to Settings > Apps & services > Launch manager, swipe right on the function keys for automatic app management, or swipe left for Manage manually (You can choose whether to allow apps to run in the background).
It is recommended that you allow social communication apps (such as WeChat, TikTok, and Alipay) to run in the background. This helps ensure that these apps can be started more efficiently and receive messages in a timely manner.
Apps that are not allowed to run in the background will be stopped from running by default after the device's screen is turned off. When you open such an app again, it may start a little slowly, during which the CPU (processor) will run with high payload for a short period of time. When multiple such apps are started for the first time, it is normal that the device heats up obviously.
If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to Huawei Customer Service Centre for more help.
