My HUAWEI earphones don't respond or respond slowly to touch control shortcuts |
- The double-tap shortcut for answering or hanging up calls is not supported in certain third-party apps, like WeChat, QQ, WeCom, Lark, Yixin, DingTalk, and WhatsApp.
If the earphones are unresponsive or respond slowly to double-taps, triple-taps, or press-and-hold operations, perform the following steps to troubleshoot:
- Put on the earphones and adjust them or use ear tips of different sizes to ensure a snug fit. The touch controls will only work when the earphones are being worn. The earphones may come loose in your ears.
- You can set different touch controls for the left and right earphones. Make sure that the gesture feature is enabled and that you have set the desired touch controls for each earphone.
- FreeBuds series/FreeClip earphones: See Set up and use my HUAWEI earphones.
- WATCH Buds earphones: Open the Huawei Health app, go to Device, visit the device details screen, and go to Manage earbuds > Gestures.
- Remember to tap the earphones with your fingertips, rather than your nails, and use an appropriate amount of force at the right position.
- FreeBuds series earphones: Tap the middle or top of the earbud stems. For FreeBuds SE 2, double-tap the upper part of the handle; for FreeBuds 5/FreeBuds 4E, double-tap the middle part of the handle, using an appropriate amount of force.

- WATCH Buds earphones: Tap the earphones themselves, area in front of the ears, or auricles, as shown in orange below.
- FreeClip earphones: Tap the elastic connector, acoustic ball, or bean-shaped part with your finger.

- FreeBuds series earphones: Tap the middle or top of the earbud stems. For FreeBuds SE 2, double-tap the upper part of the handle; for FreeBuds 5/FreeBuds 4E, double-tap the middle part of the handle, using an appropriate amount of force.
- When in motion, the earphones may be less sensitive to tap operations. In this case, stand still when you tap the earphones, or go to Gesture and select None in the earphone Settings.
- To control audio playback on your phone when the screen is locked, open the phone Settings, go to Battery > More battery settings, and enable Stay connected while asleep.
- Enable Bluetooth controls or wired playback controls in the music app on your phone. If the third-party music app is not responsive, try using the HUAWEI Music app instead. In HUAWEI Music, go to the home screen, touch the four-dot menu in the upper right corner, and go to .
- There may be an issue with third-party music app. Try using the HUAWEI Music app instead.
- There may be sweat on the touch control area or your hand. Wipe off any sweat and try again.
- After playing audio and then opening a game, when the system detects that the game is running, other audio will not play even after you double-tap the earphones. You can set a single earphone to play the previous or next track, and use such touch controls to trigger audio playback.
- If PUBG Mobile is running in the background, this app will occupy the audio channel. Wait for a minute before double-tapping the earphones to play other audio, or exit the game.
- If double-tapping the earphones doesn't pause audio when the WeChat Read app is open, update the WeChat Read app to its latest version.
- If double-tapping the earphones doesn't pause audio when the HUAWEI Recorder app is in use, clear the HUAWEI Recorder app from the background and restart it. Please keep an eye out for future app updates and update at your earliest convenience.
If the issue persists, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
