The lung function assessment result from Health Glance is inaccurate on my HUAWEI watch

Lung function assessment is one of the check items for respiratory health check using the Respiratory Study app. After starting a measurement in a quiet environment, the user takes a deep breath, coughs hard about 30 cm away from the watch, and repeats the action for two to three times. The watch evaluates the user's lung function by analysing the cough sound. The assessment results include good, average, and poor.

Problem

For a user with abnormal lung function, the lung function assessment result is good.

For a user with normal lung function, the lung function assessment result is poor.

Cause

  • Acute respiratory diseases (such as pneumonia and colds), drinking, smoking, and intense exercise may cause inaccurate lung function assessment results.
  • Improper wearing during collection of physiological parameters may affect the detection result.
  • When recording cough sounds, ambient noise and low cough sounds may affect the detection result.

Solution

  • It is recommended that you do not start a measurement during illness, after intense exercise, or after smoking or drinking.
  • During the measurement, it is recommended that you wear the device snugly yet comfortably and measure while sitting, rather than standing or lying down.
  • It is recommended that you record the cough sound in a quiet environment, take a deep breath, cough hard about 30 cm away from the watch, and repeat the action for two to three times.
