Unable to open Office apps or files on my HUAWEI computer

Problem

  1. When the user double-clicks or right-clicks to open a Microsoft Office app (such as Word), the app does not respond.
  2. When the user double-clicks or right-clicks to open a Microsoft Office file, a message displays indicating that the program cannot be started properly.

Cause

This happens because the Microsoft Office file may be corrupted.

Solution

Office apps are developed by Microsoft and are only connected to the Microsoft activation server. Linking the apps with a Microsoft account once will take effect permanently. It is recommended that you contact Microsoft's customer service for assistance. You can also try the following solutions.

  1. Run the following commands to open the Office app and check whether the app responds:

Press Win+R to display the Run window. Enter winword /safe and press Enter. Create a document or open the file you were unable to open and check whether the issue persists.

To open Word, enter winword /safe in the Run window; to open Excel, enter excel /safe; to open PowerPoint, enter powerpnt /safe. Please note that there is a space before "/".

  2. If the document can be opened but it takes a long time to open it, press F8 during startup to enter Safe mode, and perform the following steps to cancel the add-ins:
    1. Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
    2. Select COM Add-ins next to Manage: and click Go....

    3. Uncheck all items (do not delete them) and click OK. Restart the Office app and check whether the issue still persists.

  3. You can also click the Start icon, go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, search for Office, select the pre-installed Office version, click Change, and select Quick fix. (For Windows 11, go to Advance > Fix.) If the issue still persists, uninstall and re-install the Office app by going to Apps & features.
    1. Open the login website of the Office account.
    2. Log in with your Microsoft account that has been activated and linked to Office.

    3. On the Services & subscriptions screen, click Install on the right side of the Office product and follow the onscreen instructions to install the appropriate Microsoft Office apps.

  4. If the issue persists, back up your data in advance, record your Office account, and use F10 to restore your computer to its factory settings. If the issue remains unresolved, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance. We will do our best to address your needs.
