Unable to receive message notifications after my wearable device is connected to a HUAWEI or third-party Android phone

* The following video is for reference only.

Principle behind push notifications

When the Huawei Health app is connected to your wearable device via Bluetooth, the new messages displayed in the notification panel of your phone will be pushed to your wearable device.

Tips

  1. If you have enabled Mute notifications when using phone or Smart notifications, your wearable device will not notify you of messages when you are using your phone. To disable this feature, go to Huawei Health > Devices, access the device details screen, enable Notifications, and toggle off the switch for Mute notifications when using phone or Smart notifications.

  2. If Only show notifications when worn is enabled on your wearable device, it will not notify you of incoming messages. You can go to Settings > Notifications and toggle off Only show notifications when worn. (The following figure uses HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3 as an example.)

  3. When Do Not Disturb/Sleep mode is enabled, your wearable device will not notify you of new messages. You can swipe down on the watch home screen to disable Do Not Disturb/Sleep mode.

Setting message notifications

  1. Enable notification access for the Huawei Health app.
    • HUAWEI phones: Open Settings, search for and access the Notification access screen, and toggle on the switch for Huawei Health.

    • Samsung phones (running Android 13, as an example): Go to Settings > Apps > > Special access > Notification access, and toggle on the switch for Huawei Health.
    • Xiaomi phones (running MIUI 12, as an example): Go to Settings > Privacy > Manage > Special app access > Notification access, and toggle on the switch for Huawei Health.
  2. Enable notifications in Huawei Health.

Go to Huawei Health > Devices and touch the connected device card and then Notifications. Enable Notifications, and toggle on the switches for apps you wish to receive notifications from.

  3. Enable app notifications on your phone.
    • HUAWEI phones: Go to Settings > Notifications, find the target app, and enable Allow notifications. Set the notification styles (such as Choose ringtone, Vibrate, Banners, Lock screen notifications, Allow interruptions, or App icon badges) for the app, and disable Gentle notifications.

    • Samsung phones: Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications, select the target app, and toggle on the corresponding switch.
    • Xiaomi phones: Go to Settings > Notification and Status bar > Notification management, select the target app, enable Allow notifications, and enable Floating notifications and Lock screen notifications.

You'll need to disable App lock and Notification filtering if you're using a Xiaomi phone, by going to Settings > Apps > App lock > Hide notification content, and toggling off the switch for the target app.

    • Specific settings may vary depending on your phone model and system version. For details, contact your phone's manufacturer.
  4. Set background protection for Huawei Health.
    • HUAWEI phones: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or touch the Recent tasks icon if you're using Three-key navigation) to enter the Recent tasks screen. Find Huawei Health and swipe down on it to lock it. Once locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner.
    • Third-party Android phones: Go to Huawei Health > Devices, access the device card, touch Watch connection protection/Band connection protection, and follow the onscreen instructions.

If the issue persists

  1. Make sure your watch/band is properly connected to your phone.

  2. Restart your phone and try pairing again.
  3. Update your watch/band and the Huawei Health app.

  4. Clear Bluetooth cache on your phone.

HUAWEI phones: Open Settings, search for and access the Apps screen, and go to > Show system processes > Bluetooth > Storage > Clear cache.

  5. Uninstall and then reinstall the Huawei Health app.

Before uninstalling Huawei Health, go to Huawei Health > Me > Privacy management, and toggle on Sync fitness data to cloud/Sync health data to cloud. Then return to the Me screen and go to Settings > Sync data manually.

  6. Restore your watch/band to its factory settings.

Restoring your wearable device to its factory settings will clear all personal data from the wearable end, trigger transportation card migration (provided that your enrolled transportation cards support migration), and remove any access cards and bank cards. Please back up your important data in advance.

If none of the above solved the problem, call the Huawei customer service hotline for further assistance.
