My HUAWEI FreeClip/FreeBuds series earphones or the charging case cannot be charged or charge slowly

  • The earphones cannot be charged when the ambient temperature is lower than 0°C or higher than 45°C, and the charging time will be longer when the ambient temperature is between 0°C and 20°C. You are advised to charge the earphones and charging case in an environment where the temperature is between 10°C and 45°C, for safe, optimal charging.
  • The battery ages with increased usage time, and the battery capacity decreases.

Troubleshoot as follows:

  1. Check the laser-engraved model name inside the charging case (on the right of the lid). If the model name ends with "L", it indicates that the earphones are of the wired charging edition and do not support wireless charging.
  2. Clean the metal contacts: Place the earphones into the charging case and check whether the indicator turns on. If the indicator does not turn on, use a clean and dry pointed cotton swab to gently wipe the charging contacts on both the earphones and the charging case. Keep wiping until the indicator turns on.

  3. Connect the wireless charger to a standard adapter and cable for charging. If you use a third-party wireless charger or a wireless charger that is not certified, the charging case may not be able to charge properly or may even get damaged.

    • The charging cases of the FreeBuds 3 and FreeBuds 2 series earphones are not compatible with E-mark 5 A or 6 A USB-C to USB-C cables, and cannot be charged using the standard cables of a HUAWEI SuperCharger (Max 40 W), GaN ultra-thin charger (Max 66 W), SuperCharge GaN dual-port charger (Max 65 W), or a SuperCharge GaN multiple-port charger (Max 66 W). You can use a non-E-mark USB-C to USB-C cable (such as the 3.3 A cable that comes with a HUAWEI laptop) or a USB-A to USB-C cable to charge the earphones.
    • For FreeBuds Studio, it's recommended that you use a 5 V/2 A or higher power adapter to charge the earphones for more than 15 minutes and then try again.
    • The HUAWEI FreeBuds series earphones are not compatible with the MagSafe Charger. Use a HUAWEI wireless charger instead.
  4. If you are using the wireless charging edition, go to Settings > Battery on your phone, and enable Wireless Reverse Charging. Before charging, make sure that there is no protective case on the charging case and phone, and that there are no objects between the charging case and the phone.

    • Third-party devices may not support charging the charging case wirelessly due to compatibility issues. It is recommended that you use a HUAWEI phone or tablet for wireless reverse charging.
    • FreeBuds 5 does not support wireless reverse charging or wireless charging using a power bank with the wireless charging feature.
    • The charging case of FreeBuds 5 is designed with a metal decorative piece. As the CP60 HUAWEI Wireless Charger (Max 15 W) has already been on the market for a while and is sensitive to metal, it is incompatible with FreeBuds 5. Use a HUAWEI SuperCharge Wireless Charger to charge FreeBuds 5.
  5. Place the earphones with the HUAWEI logo facing upwards (downwards for FreeBuds 4). Align the centre of the lower half of the charging case with the centre of the wireless charger or with the sensing area of the phone on which Wireless Reverse Charging is enabled. Adjust the position of the charging case until the indicator light turns on and remains steady on for more than 10 seconds.
  6. Press and hold the Function button for more than 10 seconds until the indicator flashes to restore the earphones to their factory settings and try charging again.

  1. Charging with a wireless charging stand (such as CP62): Place the charging case on the stand with the USB Type-C port facing upwards and adjust the position until the indicator remains steady on for more than 10 seconds.
  2. When the battery level of the charging case is 100%, the indicators on the charger and charging case will turn off. In this case, you can stop charging.
  3. Do not charge the charging case in an environment with a high temperature and high humidity. Charging automatically stops when the temperature is higher than 45℃ due to thermal protection.

  • It is normal for the earphones' battery level not to reach 100% after you have fully charged them and left them idle for multiple days (seven days in general). To prevent power loss when idle, the earphones enter Sleep mode after being placed in the charging case for about three hours. In this case, the charging case will no longer charge the earphones, and the earphones will only consume a small amount of power. After you open the charging case, the earphones will wake up and exit Sleep mode. Closing the charging case again will resume charging.

If the issue is resolved, you are advised to update the earphones' firmware to the latest version at your earliest convenience, and fully charge the earphones and the charging case. If the issue persists, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
