Sound stutters when playing through my HUAWEI FreeBuds/FreeLace series or WATCH Buds earphones |
- The sound from the earphones stutters for 1–2 seconds, when launching a game, reconnecting the earphones to a second device, or sharing audio with another pair of earphones.
- On FreeBuds Pro 3/FreeBuds Pro 2, the sound may also stutter for 1–2 seconds when you switch modes in HD Spatial Audio. This is no cause for concern.
- On FreeBuds 5/FreeBuds Pro 2, the sound may stutter when Spatial Audio is enabled in environments with interference. You can temporarily disable the feature.
If the sound stutters during calls or audio playback, perform the following steps to troubleshoot:
- Make sure that your earphones, mobile phone, and AudioAccessoryManager are all updated to their latest versions.
- Bring your phone and earphones closer together, and try to avoid any sources of interference. If you are using HUAWEI WATCH Buds, adjust how you wear them to avoid blocking the tail of the earphones, as doing so can undermine noise cancellation performance and the quality of the connection.
- If the earphones are outside of their connection range, the sound from the earphones may stutter, or the earphones may even disconnect. When you re-enter the connection range, the earphones will automatically re-connect. If the connection doesn't resume, try pairing the earphones once again.
- If the earphones are used in an environment with signal interference:
- When you play a video or make a call in an environment with strong radio signal interference (such as at a busy intersection, metro station, high-speed rail station, airports, or shopping mall, or if there is a microwave oven nearby) or poor network signal, the sound from the earphones may stutter. This is normal, and it is recommended that you avoid using your earphones in such environments.
- Temporarily disable Smart HD (LDAC/L2HC): It is normal for sound to stutter or become distorted in crowded environments, such as train stations and airports, and in areas where walls are blocking the signal. Turn off the Smart HD feature whenever you enter such an environment.
- FreeBuds Pro 3/FreeBuds 5/FreeBuds Pro 2/FreeBuds 5i/FreeBuds Studio supports Smart HD. You can disable this feature temporarily, or enable Prioritise connection quality, by opening the AI Life app, touching the earphones card, and selecting Sound quality.
- FreeBuds 2 Pro/FreeBuds 2 supports High audio quality. To disable this feature, go to Settings > Device connection > Bluetooth > Earphone settings > High sound quality.
- If you manually set the Balanced (adaptive bitrate). to 990 kbps or 660 kbps in Developer options, change it to the default
- If the sound stutters when you are playing games in environments with strong interference (such as metros and stations), disable Dynamic latency temporarily.
To disable Dynamic latency for FreeBuds Pro 3/FreeBuds 5/FreeBuds Pro 2/FreeBuds 5i, open the AI Life app, touch the earphones card, and touch Settings. To disable Dynamic latency for WATCH Buds, open the Huawei Health app, and go to Devices > WATCH Buds > Earbuds > Settings.
- Check whether the earphones have enough power: If the indicator on the charging box is yellow or green, it means that the earphones' battery level is sufficient. If the indicator is red, please charge the earphones in a timely manner. If the earphones can't be charged, please refer to My earphones or the charging case cannot be charged or charge slowly.
- Certain audio sources or players may be faulty. Try using another audio source or player instead.
- Compatibility issues with third-party apps, such as Honor of Kings, can cause audio stuttering during in-app calls. We are working with the relevant parties to resolve this issue. You can also send your feedback to the app provider. To do so, using Honor of Kings as an example, open the app, and touch Settings to contact customer service.
If the issue persists, restart your phone or tablet, reset your earphones, and pair your earphones with your phone or tablet again.
If the issue persists, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
To learn more:
- If the connection fails, troubleshoot the issue by referring to Unable to pair HUAWEI earphones.

Thanks for your feedback.
