HUAWEI tablet FreeScript does not work

Your tablet must run HarmonyOS 2 or later and support FreeScript. For details, see Features supported on HUAWEI M-Pencil (2nd/3rd generation) when paired with a tablet.

If FreeScript is supported but you cannot write with the stylus, troubleshoot the issue based on the following scenarios:

Ensure that the stylus is connected properly.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Stylus and check whether the stylus information is displayed properly. If not, reconnect the stylus (disable Bluetooth and then reconnect the stylus).

For details about how to connect the stylus, see Pair my HUAWEI M-Pencil with a tablet and charge it.

Ensure that FreeScript is enabled.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Stylus > FreeScript and enable FreeScript.

Ensure that you are using the correct writing method.

  1. You need to use a stylus to write. FreeScript will not work when you use your finger to write.
  2. FreeScript has requirements about the position of the stylus tip when you are writing. It is recommended that you put the stylus tip in or near a text box. Otherwise, your operation may be identified as a misoperation.

Ensure that the app or text box you are using supports FreeScript.

  1. Apps: Open HUAWEI Browser. If FreeScript works well in the address box but does not work in another app, that app may have compatibility issues. You can use the soft keyboard to enter text. Some apps are not yet compatible with FreeScript. We have contacted the app developers and will work with them to optimize your experience. Please update the apps to the latest versions.
  2. Text boxes: Due to the protection of your input information against theft and restrictions implemented by third-party apps, FreeScript is not supported for text boxes that are for entering security information & passwords, in games, in note-taking apps (to prevent handwritten notes being affected), or customized by certain apps (such as Quark Browser).

If the stylus is connected, FreeScript is enabled, you are using the correct writing method, but the issue persists, perform the following to troubleshoot.

  1. Remove any non-HUAWEI magnetic case from the stylus as they may cause FreeScript to be unavailable. Use a standard HUAWEI protective case instead.
  2. Attach the stylus again.
  3. Disable FreeScript and enable it again.
  4. Disconnect the Bluetooth, wait for at least 20 seconds, and reconnect the stylus.
  5. Press and hold the Power button to turn off the screen and turn it on again. If the issue persists, restart the device. (Press and hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds, or the Volume down and Power buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds to forcibly restart the device until the device vibrates and displays the power-on icon.)
  6. Update the tablet and apps to their latest versions: Some issues will be resolved by updating the tablet and apps. Please stay tuned for version updates and update the tablet and apps at your earliest convenience.
  7. If the issue persists, call the Huawei customer service hotline, back up your data, and take your proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance. We will do our best to address your needs.
