My device does not detect Wi-Fi hotspots
My device does not detect Wi-Fi hotspots |
If your HUAWEI device is unable to detect any wireless network, disable and re-enable the Wi-Fi. Then scan for wireless networks again.
Also, try performing a network reset. On your device go to Settings, search for Reset network settings and perform the reset. This will delete all of your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.Once the reset is completed, try scanning and connecting your device to the Wi-Fi again.
If your device is unable to detect a specific wireless network (for example your home or office Wi-Fi), the hotspot name (SSID) may be hidden. Please open the Settings on your HUAWEI device, go to Wi-Fi and select Add network. Manually enter the network name and the required password. Also, you can disable the SSID hiding function of the router.
If the issue was not resolved, swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel, and tap and hold the Personal hotspot icon to access the hotspot settings screen.
Go to More (or Show advanced options for EMUI 9.X or below) and select AP band to view the frequency bands supported by your device.
Then check if they are consistent with the frequency band of the wireless network you are trying to connect to.
If your smartphone or tablet only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, it cannot detect 5 GHz networks. In this case, set the router to 2.4 GHz and try to connect to the hotspot again. If needed, please refer to the router's user manual or contact the manufacturer's customer services for further details.
Also, if the band steering feature is enabled on the router, only 5 GHz hotspots are available. In this case, please disable this feature on your router.
Now your device should detect two different networks with similar names (for example HUAWEI-XXXXXX for a 2.4 GHz network and HUAWEI-XXXXXX_5G for a 5 GHz one); connect to either of them, according to your needs.
On your router, also check if the encryption type is set to Enhanced Open, WPA3 Personal, or WPA3 Enterprise, as certain models do not support those encryption modes.
If so, please change the encryption mode of the router to Open/Enhanced Open, WPA2/WPA3 Personal, or WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise.
If the issue persists, change the frequency band and the channel settings of the router. Change your router's channels to 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and to 149 for 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Then try again to connect your device to the wireless network.
If this issue occurs when using a non-local version of a HUAWEI device (for example, when using a China-version phone outside China or an European-version phone in China), insert a local SIM card, and register on the local network. Then search for the Wi-Fi again, as different countries/regions use different wireless network channels.
If the issue occurs when using a 3rd party app to scan for Wi-Fi networks, please perform the following:
swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel and enable Location.
open the Settings, go to Apps and look for the app you are using to scan for wireless networks. Select Permissions and make sure Location is enabled.
check whether your device can detect Wi-Fi networks. If so, the issue lies with the 3rd party app. In this case, update the app from Huawei AppGallery or Google Play Store or download another app with similar functions.
If none of the above solved the issue, back up your data and take your device and proof-of-purchase to an authorised HUAWEI Customer Service Centre or contact HUAWEI Customer Services for further assistance.
