Why is it Worth Running?

Running is far more versatile than it appears at first glance. Whether it's a long, relaxed run in a group or a short, fast lap - both are perfect for shaking off the stress of everyday life and letting go. Intervals can provide additional variety with changes of pace, and this is not just something for professionals: beginners can also get started by alternating between running and walking. This makes running a sport for anyone who is physically able. It is very inexpensive and uncomplicated, as you can start from almost anywhere and there is no need to travel. Running also offers the opportunity to gradually rediscover your surroundings. Cities can also be explored wonderfully on foot. Different routes provide additional variety: in the forest, by lakes, through parks, along rivers, in the gym on trail paths or on the beach promenade - the possibilities are endless, and you often end up running your favorite route.

Once you have gotten started, you will increasingly enjoy the relaxation and the new body feeling when running. Running can become ‘me-time’ or a social get-together with friends. The physical exertion - which doesn't have to be intense every time - helps to clear your head. The feeling of arriving home a little exhausted but balanced is a wonderful feeling.

Many people have been lacing up their running shoes regularly for years. If you want to start running, you only need a little equipment and can get started straight away. The most important thing is good running shoes - it's worth getting advice and choosing a model that fits your feet well. For women, a well-fitting sports bra that provides sufficient support without pinching is also important. A watch that records health data and training sessions is a great help for both beginners and advanced athletes. The heart rate monitor in particular can be a valuable tool for managing training correctly and avoiding overexertion.

With the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro, you can measure your heart rate conveniently on your wrist and the heart rate is categorised into different stress zones. Especially when starting out, you should Stay in the comfort zone, i.e. the blue and green zones. The speed is initially of secondary importance - it is more important to keep going and have fun while running. Even for professionals, runs in the lower heart rate range are important for building up basic endurance and for regeneration. The combination of different training units such as longer, easy runs, intervals and recovery phases promotes running speed in the long term.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro together with the HUAWEI Health App offers the possibility to create individual training plans, set goals and be reminded to train. It's fun to track your progress, set records and challenge yourself. Once you get started, improvements will quickly follow and it's fun to see how you get fitter, your heart rate adapts with your speed, and you get faster and faster.

Tips for Getting Started with Running:
01
Running with company: Try running in pairs or in a group. Training together and motivating each other can help you overcome even minor lows.
02
Variety through other endurance sports: The cardiovascular system can also be improved by cycling, swimming, cross-country skiing or hiking. This is particularly useful if your muscles and tendons are not yet used to running or simply to provide variety. Such units are a good substitute for regenerative runs.
03
Take the first step: The beginning is often the hardest part. But once you've run a few times, you'll develop a routine. Sometimes the fun comes while you're running - so just get going!
04
Celebrate progress: Rejoice in your own successes and put aside comparisons with others. Focus on your goals and recognise any progress towards them as a success.

Beyond Running: How to Continuously Improve

If you alternate between different areas of exertion and, above all, train a lot of basic skills, you are already doing a lot right. However, it is advisable to incorporate mobility, strengthening and coordination exercises around the running training itself. This helps to prevent injuries and is also useful for improving your running posture. Mobility can also be combined with breathing exercises in the form of yoga. Breathing exercises can have a positive effect on the nervous system and therefore also contribute to health and regeneration. The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro also provides very short breathing exercises directly on the wrist and can be started straight away. Further instructions are available in the HUAWEI Health app.

In addition to breathing and yoga instructions, the HUAWEI Health App contains many different exercises for strengthening and entire courses - many of which you can easily do at home without any effort or additional equipment. To improve running performance, it is a good idea to train the core and thus maintain body stability when running, even with increasing fatigue.

Jumping rope can improve your coordination and footprint. With music and a little practice, jumping rope becomes more and more fun - for all ages. Of course, the same applies here: start slowly and with just a few jumps, keep at it regularly and listen to your body. A metronome can be set via the HUAWEI Health App , which can help you find the right rhythm. Rope jumping can be combined well with running training, e.g. 4x 20 rope jumps after a relaxed run. It's best to have the rope ready before you start running, e.g. in your letterbox, and then you can start straight away without having to go into your flat or house.

“Sport should be fun. With the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro, you have plenty of scope to find out which sport, which training support and exercises are the best fit. Just being able to try out the many different options motivates you to get started.”

Listen to Your Body and Run Faster - The Female Cycle Also Plays a Role

In addition to the training load, other factors also have an effect on the body - these include stress from work, school or university, the onset of a cold and also the female cycle. It is often not immediately clear why running sometimes feels harder or why your heart rate is higher than usual at rest and during exercise. It can be unsettling at times like this, but it helps to consider possible influences and, above all, to listen to your own body. Sometimes it is better to slow down or shorten the lap.

The female cycle also influences the body's resilience. Two phases play an important role here: the follicular phase and the luteal phase.

Good to know:

• Follicular phase: Intensive sessions and strength training are often easier in the first part of the cycle.
• Luteal phase: In the second part of the cycle, the focus is more on regenerative units; consider individual differences and adapt training to your own cycle (cycle training).

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro and the HUAWEI Health App offer a cycle calendar in which mood and physical symptoms such as breast tenderness, muscle cramps or headaches can be documented. This makes it easier to customise training to your own needs and understand your body better [1]. The regularity of periods also serves as a health indicator: insufficient energy intake can lead to deficiency symptoms and impair running performance in the long term. The syndrome ‘Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports’ (RED-S) affects all genders and includes the consequences of an energy deficit in endurance sports. In women, the absence of menstruation is a common consequence and a first warning sign [2] - medical advice should be sought.

The variety in running training, playing with different intensities and the combination with strength and mobility elements not only bring joy, but also improve running performance. Good cooperation with the body and recognising the body's signals play a major role in this.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro has particularly helpful tools for improving running speed:
•Heart rate measurement: Helps to control the load and avoid overtraining.
•Cycle calendar: Helps to adapt training to the different phases of the cycle.
•Training modes Training programs and evaluation: Enables detailed analysis of running data and supports targeted improvement of running speed.

a. Diverse Training Programs and Helpful Functions of the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro

The smartwatch offers a wide selection and preset training programs modes that are optimised for various activities such as road running, trail running, cross-country skiing, hiking and outdoor swimming. This is helpful for tracking training afterwards and having the relevant training parameters directly in view.

One highlight is the option to select the respective lane when running on the track in the station. While the inside lane is exactly 400 meters long, the distance on the outside lanes is longer - the watch automatically takes this difference into account.

The training programs can be adapted within certain limits. For example, automatic lap times for free running can be set either by distance or time.

However, individual lap times during a session cannot be stopped manually in this mode. If you want to differentiate between different training phases such as warm-up, fast endurance run and cool-down, you can either start a new session or use the track training mode.

b. Heart Rate Measurement: An Important Tool for All Runners

Wrist-based heart rate measurement is a valuable tool for both beginners and professionals. It is important that high heart rate ranges should only be achieved during intensive sessions or competitions. Basic training should predominate in order to avoid overloading and achieve sustainable increases in performance. In addition to your own body awareness, heart rate measurement provides you with good feedback on your training intensity and state of health.

HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro

c. An Easy-to-Use GPS Function

For advanced runners or those working towards a specific competition goal, it is essential to have information on pace and distance in addition to time and heart rate measurements. The watch's GPS function makes it possible to automatically record split times after a kilometer. The feedback on the running speed helps to adjust the pace, achieve the planned target time and organise the race well.

Operating the watch is simple and intuitive: you can easily switch between the different displays by turning the small crown or using the touchscreen. If necessary, for example to retie your shoes or take a drink break, the unit can be paused by briefly pressing the crown and then restarted.

In many programs, individual intermediate rounds are possible using the ‘Down’ button on the side of the watch.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro thus offers comprehensive support for runners of all performance levels by precisely recording training data and allowing the units to be customised. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced runner, these functions help you achieve your training goals in an effective and targeted manner.
