My HUAWEI phone/tablet heats up when taking photos or recording videos

Problem:

The device heats up when the user is taking photos or shooting videos.

Cause:

Photo or video shooting requires the camera, GPU, and CPU to work together. As a result, during imaging or image processing, the device works under a heavy load, and consumes a large amount of power, causing it to heat up after working for a long time. This is normal.

Solution:

  1. When you are recording a video, the CPU, GPU, and camera lens need to work together for a long time. The payload and power consumption are high, which may cause the phone/tablet to heat up. HUAWEI phones/tablets have a complete temperature control policy for a better experience. Overheating protection is a protective measure for your phone/tablet and is normal.
  2. If you take photos or record videos in an outdoor environment exposed to sunlight, your phone/tablet will absorb solar radiation and automatically adjust the screen brightness to a higher level, resulting in higher heat consumption than that in a low light environment. You are advised to stop shooting when you feel that your device is overheating and continue to use it when it cools down.
  3. If you are recording a video for a long time, you are advised to set the video resolution to 1080p (default value) and the video frame rate to 30 FPS (default value) by opening the video recording screen in Camera, tapping the gear icon in the upper right corner, and setting Video resolution and Frame rate.
  4. HUAWEI phones/tablets have a comprehensive temperature protection mechanism. When your device detects that the component or shell temperature is too high, it will display a message and count down for 5 seconds to save your photos before exiting. This is normal, and you will be able to continue to use your device after the temperature restores to normal.

If your phone is overheating and cannot be used as usual, contact Huawei consumer service hotline. You can also back up your data in advance and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
