Setting, changing, and deleting the HDD password in the BIOS |
Setting the BIOS HDD password involves a secure hard disk encryption method. The HDD password in the BIOS supports the anti-brute-force attack mechanism, which means that no one can access the hard disk data without the HDD password, even if the hard disk is inserted into another computer. You can set, change, and delete the HDD password in the BIOS.
- The HDD password is only saved in HDD firmware, and will not be backed up in BIOS firmware. There is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password.
- Not all computers support the HDD password feature. If the HDD Password option is not available on the BIOS Setup Utility screen, it indicates that your computer does not support BIOS hard disk password setting.
Setting up an HDD password:
- During startup or restart, press and hold or continuously press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility screen.
- Select HDD Password, and press Enter. The system configuration tool window will appear.
In the BIOS of some products, the password setting screen will appear after you click HDD Password. In this case, follow the onscreen instructions to set the password. The actual interface should prevail.
- Select HDD Master Password, and press Enter. Then, follow the onscreen instructions to enter and confirm your password, and press Enter.
The hard disk is not locked when only the HDD Master Password has been set. If you need to lock the hard disk, set an HDD User password at the same time.
- After setting the HDD Master Password, select HDD User Password, and press Enter. Then, follow the onscreen instructions to enter and confirm your password, and press Enter.
- Press F10 to save the settings and exit. Restart the computer, and enter the HDD password in the pop-up window to access the system. You can enter either the HDD Master Password or the HDD User Password to access the system.
