If you cannot receive SMS messages, refer to My HUAWEI phone/tablet cannot receive SMS messages.
To provide you with an immersive calling experience, HarmonyOS 5 and later versions optimize the notification mode during calls. When your device receives an SMS message while ringing for an incoming call, dialing, in a call, on hold, or in call waiting, the SMS notification will only ring/vibrate and will be displayed in the notification center/panel. Banner notifications, lock screen notifications, and automatic screen-on are not supported.
Check the notification settings of your device
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to display the shortcut switch panel. Make sure that your device is in Sound mode and Do not disturb is disabled (you can also search for Do not disturb in Settings).
- To adjust the ringtone volume, go to and adjust the volume for incoming calls, messages, and notifications.
- Configure message notifications.
Go to , search for and access Messaging, and tap Notifications.
(1) Enable Allow notifications. If it is already enabled, disable it and then re-enable it.
(2) Select SIM card 1/2 and disable Gentle notifications. If it is already disabled, enable it and then disable it again.
(3) Enable Lock screen, Banners and Badges. If they are already enabled, disable them and then re-enable them.
(4) Enable ALLOW INTERRUPTIONS.
Check whether the contact information screen is displayed when a message is received
If a message is received on the contact information screen, the device does not play the prompt tone or display the notification.
Clear Messaging data
Skip this step if your device is running HarmonyOS 5.
The Messaging data may be abnormal. In this case, open Settings, search for and tap Apps, find and tap Messaging or Messages, and go to (this will not delete SMS data).
