Maximized apps on a secondary screen return to the primary screen after waking the computer from Hibernation mode

Problem

A secondary screen is connected to the computer by a DisplayPort cable. When an app is maximized on the secondary screen, there is a chance that it will return to the primary screen when the computer is woken from Hibernation mode.

Cause

This is caused by a compatibility issue between an external DisplayPort cable and a 4K monitor.

Solution

Method 1: Drag the app back to the secondary screen and maximize it again to continue normal use.

Method 2: Swap the DisplayPort cable for an HDMI or VGA cable to link up the secondary screen.

This issue is not related to your system version.
