No notification when a new message is received |
The following uses Messaging as an example. It serves as a reference for issues about other kinds of messages.
Turn on or turn off some related switches
- Make sure that your phone is not silenced.
Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel and confirm that the sound settings icon (as shown in the following figure) is not set to Silent.
- Make sure that Allow notifications is enabled.
Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find and touch Messaging, touch Notifications, and enable Allow notifications. If it has been enabled, re-enable it.
- Make sure that Do not disturb is disabled.
Open Settings, search for and access Do not disturb, and make sure that Do not disturb is disabled.
- (Applicable only to EMUI 10.X and Magic UI 3.X) Make sure that Gentle notifications is disabled.
Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find and touch Messaging, touch Notifications, select the corresponding SIM card, and disable Gentle notifications.
Proceed with the following troubleshooting measures if the issue persists
- If there is no vibration or ringtone when a new message is received:
- (Applicable only to the EMUI 9.X and Magic UI 2.X) Check whether you have set the Messaging notification tone to None or turned off the Vibration switch.
Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find Messaging, touch Notifications, and make sure you have selected a value other than None for the notification sound option and the Vibration switch is turned on.
- Check whether an incompatible third-party theme is being used.
It is recommended that you use a preset theme. To do so, go to Apply.

- (Applicable only to the EMUI 9.X and Magic UI 2.X) Check whether you have set the Messaging notification tone to None or turned off the Vibration switch.
- If the indicator does not flash when a message comes in:

- If the screen does not turn on for a new message received when the screen is off:
- Check whether Magazine unlock has been enabled.
EMUI 9.0 or earlier: Open Settings, search for and access Magazine unlock, and set Lock screen style to Magazine unlock.
EMUI 9.1: Go to
. - Check whether Notifications turn on screen is enabled.
Open Settings, search for and access Notifications turn on screen, and enable Notifications turn on screen.
- Check whether Magazine unlock has been enabled.
- If no banner notification is displayed when a new message is received:
- Check whether the Banners switch for Messaging is disabled.
Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find and touch Messaging, touch Notifications, select the corresponding SIM card, and enable Banners.
- Check whether the Banners switch for Messaging is disabled.
- If notification content is not displayed on the lock screen:
Refer to Notifications or notification content does not display on the lock screen.
Clear data and try again
Clear Messaging data by performing the following:
- Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find and touch Messaging, and go to . Then restart your phone, and try again.
- Open Settings, search for and access Reset all settings, and touch Reset all settings to reset all settings of your phone.

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
