Setting the administrator password and startup password in the BIOS
Setting the administrator password and startup password in the BIOS |
When your computer is starting or restarting, press and hold F2 or press F2 consecutively to enter the BIOS Setup Utility screen. You can then follow the onscreen instructions to set BIOS-related passwords.
The purpose of each password is as follows:
BIOS administrator password (BIOS configuration password): You'll need to enter the password to enter the BIOS Setup Utility screen to modify any BIOS settings after login. However, this password cannot be used as the startup password to log in to the system.
BIOS startup password: This password is required for accessing the system or BIOS screen after the computer has been powered on. However, it cannot be used to log in to the BIOS Setup Utility screen.
HUAWEI computers do not include a factory BIOS administrator password, BIOS startup password, or any form of general password. Once you set a password, remember to keep it secure. If the BIOS startup password is lost, you'll need to replace the mainboard.
Setting the BIOS administrator password or BIOS startup password:
- During startup or restart, press and hold or continuously press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility screen.
- Click SETUP Administrator Password or POST Password, press Enter, and follow the onscreen instructions to enter and confirm your password. Press Enter to confirm your selection, and press F10 to save the settings and exit.
Changing the BIOS administrator password or BIOS startup password:
- During startup, press and hold or continuously press F2. Enter the BIOS startup password on the displayed screen as prompted, and press Enter. Enter the BIOS administrator password (BIOS configuration password) as prompted. You can then enter the BIOS Setup Utility screen.
- Click SETUP Administrator Password (BIOS administrator/configuration password) or POST Password (BIOS startup password), and press Enter. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter the old password and confirm the new password, and press Enter. If the new password is left blank, the administrator password or startup password will be deleted. Then, press F10 to save the settings and exit.
