A HUAWEI computer automatically switches local account to Microsoft account after login

Problem

After logging in using the local account, then logging in to certain Microsoft apps, such as Microsoft Store and Office software, and following the onscreen instructions to sign in using the Microsoft account, only the Microsoft account can be used to sign in by default, when logging in again after restart, sleep, or hibernation.

Cause

After you sign in using your Microsoft account, your computer will switch your system account to the Microsoft account by default.

Solution

  1. After using Microsoft apps, perform the following operations to switch to your local account to avoid using the Microsoft account by default for the next login.
  • GUI in Windows 10:

Press Win+I to access the Settings screen, and go to Accounts > Your info > Sign in with a local account instead.

  • GUI in Windows 11:

Press Win+I to access the Settings screen, and go to Accounts > Your info > Account settings > Sign in with a local account instead.

For some versions, go to Accounts > Your info > Account settings.
