There is a slight whistling noise when I put my ear near the computer keyboard in a quiet environment

Problem

When the user restarts the computer, powers on the computer, or plays power-intensive games in a quiet environment, they can hear a slight whistling noise when they put an ear near the keyboard.

Cause

  1. The HONOR MagicBook features a good cooling performance, which means that it will have a comparatively high chipset power consumption. To extend the battery life of the computer and strike a balance between performance and power consumption, the chipset inside the computer will change its current and voltage based on the actual conditions. This change will generate some whistling noises. This is normal and does not indicate an issue with your computer.
  2. When you restart or power on the computer, the system will load the programs and drivers, occupying lots of resources and consuming a considerable amount of power, which will subsequently generate whistling noises. After the system runs for a while and becomes stable, the noises will become quieter.
  3. When you are performing tasks that cause high CPU usage, such as playing power-intensive games, watching HD videos, downloading files at high speeds, and running virus-scanning software, the power consumption of your chipset will greatly increase and generate whistling noises. The noises will become quieter when you stop those tasks.
  4. Noises occasionally occur when audio is played in Audacity. This is because the audio is distorted when the Audacity uses the audio host in Windows WASAPI mode. This is a software design issue.

Solution

It is recommended that you select Better performance during daily use. To do this, perform the following:

  1. Left-click the battery icon in the bottom-right corner on the taskbar.
  2. Drag the slider to select Better performance.

  3. You are advised to set the audio host of the Audacity software to MME or Windows DirectSound.
