Changing the IP address and IP address range of a HUAWEI CPE

If the default IP address of the CPE conflicts with the WAN-side IP address, the CPE will automatically modify the IP address. If the CPE accesses the Internet through a static IP address, the IP address of the WAN port needs to be provided by the carrier. If the CPE accesses the Internet through other means, the CPE can automatically obtain the IP address from the uplink network. In this case, the IP address cannot be modified. To modify the IP address of a LAN port, perform the following steps:

  • If the lease time in the LAN settings expires, the system automatically renews the lease and the IP address can still be used.
  • The 172.31 network segment is reserved in the IP address. Select another network segment.
  • The UI is subject to the CPE model and the configuration page version.
  • The CPE's LAN IP address and WAN IP address must be on different network segments.
  1. Connect your phone or computer to the CPE's Wi-Fi (or connect your computer to the CPE's LAN port using a cable). Enter 192.168.8.1 in the address box of the browser, and enter the login password to access the web-based management page of the CPE.
  2. Go to Advanced > Router > DHCP. In the LAN IP address field, enter the new IP address, and click Save. To access the web-based management page, enter the new IP address in the address box of a browser.

    • To change the IP address ranges, for example, from 192.168.8.* (* ranges from 2 to 254 by default) to 10.10.10.* (* ranges from 2 to 254 by default), you can directly change LAN IP address to 10.10.10.1. In this case, DHCP IP range is automatically changed to 10.10.10.2 to 10.10.10.254.
    • If you only want to change the value range of "*" in 192.168.8.*, you can directly change the start and end IP addresses in DHCP IP range.
