Setting speech recognition

1. Enabling speech recognition

  1. Enter "Control Panel" in the search box on the taskbar and open it.

  2. Go to Ease of Access > Speech Recognition > Start speech recognition. After the Welcome screen is displayed, click Next.

    If you cannot find Speech Recognition, set View by: to Category.

  3. Select your desired microphone type and click Next.

  4. Read how to place the microphone and click Next.

  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to read displayed sentences and click Next. Speaking Mandarin will help improve the recognition rate.

  6. Once a message reading "Your microphone is now set up" is displayed, click Next.

  7. Speech Recognition can access your documents and emails to improve its accuracy based on the words you use. Select Enable document review, or select Disable document review if you would prefer Speech Recognition to access your documents and emails. Then click Next.

  8. Select an activation mode. The following figure uses Use manual activation mode as an example.

  9. If you are not familiar with the commands, click View Reference Sheet and Microsoft Edge will open the web page with some commands displayed. Then click Next.

  10. Select whether you want this feature to start automatically at startup. Click Next.

  11. Click Start tutorial to access the Microsoft video tutorial about this feature. Once you complete these steps, you can start using the feature with voice commands.

2. Setting Speech Recognition

Open Control Panel and go to Ease of Access > Speech Recognition. You are now able to set up your microphone or take the speech tutorial.

3. Using Speech Recognition

Once Speech Recognition is set up, you can access it whenever you want. Use voice commands to control your computer or input text.

Open Control Panel, go to Ease of Access > Speech Recognition > Start Speech Recognition, and a Speech Recognition panel will then be displayed. Touch the microphone icon on the left to start speaking, then click x to close the panel.
