Setting the NAT of a HUAWEI CPE

Network address translation (NAT) is a process during which the source and destination IP addresses of an IP packet are changed when the IP packet passes through a router or firewall. The purpose of this process is to translate internal (private) IP addresses into external (public) IP addresses to deal with the situation where available IP addresses are about to be exhausted. The CPE supports cone NAT and symmetric NAT. Symmetric NAT is often deployed in gateways with higher security requirements. Cone NAT provides a lower level of security, but is more compatible. You can select a NAT type based on your requirements.

  1. Connect your phone or computer to the CPE's Wi-Fi (or connect your computer to the CPE's LAN port using a cable). Enter 192.168.8.1 in the address box of the browser, and enter the login password to access the web-based management page of the CPE.
  2. Go to Advanced > Security > NAT Settings, and select Symmetric or Cone.

The CPE does not support NAT loopback due to product specifications and restrictions. NAT loopback is a technology that allows PCs on a private network to communicate with those from the Internet.
