FAQs about the Annotate feature on Huawei tablets |
Can I use a HUAWEI M-Pencil (1st generation)?
Currently, you can only use a HUAWEI M-Pencil (2nd generation) for double-tapping to take effect. The HUAWEI M-Pencil (1st generation) will support this feature in later versions.
No response to double-tap operations
1. Ensure that the settings are configured correctly. Go to Settings>Accessibility features>Stylus>Double-tap, turn on the switch, and select Shortcut menu.
2. Ensure that double-tap operations are performed correctly.
- It is recommended that you double-tap in the valid area (within 40 mm) marked in the following figure.
- Hold the stylus firmly when you double-tap it.
- It is recommended that you use your forefinger for tapping as it is a more stable way of tapping. Go to Settings > Accessibility features > Stylus > Double-tap to view the gesture.
3. Some apps, such as Kids Corner, don't support the shortcut menu.
Unable to scroll through annotations
Scrolling through annotations is not supported in the following scenarios:
1. On some screens, such as the home screen and calendar screen.
2. On some screens with many elements such as videos, dynamic images, and floating windows, which are not suitable for scrolling through annotations.
3. The current screen has been changed. For example, you touch the back icon, touch a notification to redirect to the corresponding app, or swipe down to open the control center then an app.
In the preceding scenarios, you can't scroll through annotations, but you can still make annotations on the current screen.
Unable to share
Annotations can be shared with others. If the sharing fails or you receive no feedback after you try to share them, ensure that you have been granted the media and files permission for the app you are using. To check this, go to Settings>Apps & services>Permission Manager>Media and files.
Unable to open notifications and apps when I'm making annotations
To prevent interruptions, events such as notifications, alarms, and incoming calls won't be displayed in full-screen mode. However, you can still receive notifications and hear ringtones. If you want to perform operations or answer calls, you will need to save or exit the current annotation first.
Saving the position of images and PDF files
If you save your annotations as images, you can find them by going to Gallery>Albums>Screenshots. If you save your annotations as PDF files, you can find them by going to Files>Browse>Docs. If you can't find your annotations, swipe down on the screen to refresh the content.
Annotations are lost after the screen is turned off
You can unlock the screen at any time and continue annotating within one hour of the screen being turned off. If the screen has been turned off for a long time, the system will automatically save your annotations to prevent important information from being lost. You can go to Gallery to find the last annotation.
Maximum length of annotations
To provide a good annotating and viewing experience, there is a limit on the length of annotations. Currently, a maximum of 16 screens can be saved at a time. The maximum length varies depending on the content of different apps.
Background content of annotations is misplaced
Some screens have complex elements, such as videos, dynamic images, and floating windows. There may be an issue with content splicing. You can try making annotations on screens that have no or few dynamic elements.
Can I edit an annotation after I have saved it?
Currently, you can't.
Can I search for annotations?
Currently, you can't.
The screen flickers when I start making annotations
To provide an immersive visual experience when you are making annotations, elements that interfere with scrolling through annotations, such as the toolbar at the bottom and navigation bar, will be hidden from the screen. Therefore, the background will be refreshed and the screen may flicker.
The screen changes after I have made annotations
The screen after you have made annotations may be different from the screen when you were making annotations. This is because the content on the next screen is buffered in advance for you to slide more efficiently when making annotations. You can go back to view the previous content.
Annotations and blanks on a split screen or in App Multiplier windows
When you browse apps on a split screen or in App Multiplier windows, you will make annotations in the last window where you performed operations by default. For example, if you perform operations in the left window for the last time, you will continue browsing and annotating the content in the left window after entering Annotate mode. The other window will be left blank during the annotation process to give you more room for writing.
Making annotations in small windows
Currently, you can't make annotations in small windows and you have to zoom in to make annotations.
Exiting the Annotate screen
In addition to saving and exiting, the following operations will lead to automatically exiting the Annotate screen:
1. Share: When you make an annotation, it will be saved before being shared. In this case, the Annotate screen will automatically exit.
2. Return to the home screen: When you perform the gesture for returning to the home screen, annotating will be interrupted. A dialog box will be displayed, asking you whether to save or exit it.
3. Go to recent tasks: When you perform the gesture for going to recent tasks, annotating will be interrupted. A dialog box will be displayed, asking you whether to save or exit it.
Better use of the Annotate feature
To achieve a better annotating experience:
1. It is recommended that you make annotations on screens that have no or few dynamic elements.
2. Make annotations after you open the Annotate screen and the annotation toolbar is displayed.
