Only one printer is actually available, but multiple printers are found when one searches for LAN printers

Problem

Only one printer is actually available, but multiple printers are found when one searches for LAN printers.

Cause

If the router being used supports IPv6 addresses, multiple printer names may be displayed for the following reasons:

Each printer is equipped with two network adapters (wired and wireless). Each network adapter supports one IPv4 address and two IPv6 addresses. Printers are named based on the type and quantity of obtained IP addresses. One IP address corresponds to one device name, which is in the following format: Model-Serial number-ID. If both IPv4 and IPv6 connections are available, multiple printer names are displayed.

In the LAN printer search results, a device name with an IPv4 address is displayed before one with an IPv6 address.

If the models and serial numbers of two names are the same, these names refer to the same device. For example, HUAWEI PixLab B5-0540-00 and HUAWEI PixLab B5-0540-01 refer to the same device, as both models are HUAWEI PixLab B5 and both serial numbers are 0540.

Solution

This is a normal occurrence. You can connect to and use any of the named printers.
