Using Filter Keys in Windows 11

When Filter Keys is enabled, Windows will ignore brief or repeated keystrokes. You can also modify the keyboard repeat rate to avoid accidental keystrokes and set your own keystroke speed.

Once Filter Keys is enabled, only function keys (such as F1) and the touchpad can work properly. You can go back to the default method by disabling Filter Keys.

To turn on Filter Keys, perform the following:

  1. Press and hold the right Shift key for more than 8 seconds.
  2. Click Yes in the displayed window to turn on Filter Keys.

To turn off Filter Keys, perform the following:

  1. Enter Control Panel in the search box and open it.

  2. Click Ease of Access.

  3. Click Change how your keyboard works.

  4. Deselect the Turn on Filter Keys option and click OK to turn off this function.
