Use a HUAWEI printer to scan files

The printer supports color/black-and-white scanning. Scanned documents can be stored in your phone, tablet, or computer as pictures or PDF files for effortless reading.

The operations may vary depending on the system version of your phone, tablet, or computer. Please refer to the actual interface.

  1. Open the scanner cover, place the document you want to copy in the scanning area with the front side facing down, against the left and rear corners, and close the cover.

  2. Open the HUAWEI AI Life app and touch the HUAWEI printer card on the home screen.

  3. Touch Scan, set the scanning parameters, and touch SCAN.
    The following introduces the scanning parameters. (The scanning parameters may vary depending on the printer plug-in version. Please refer to the actual interface.)
    • Color: It is set to Multicolored by default. Options include Multicolored, Black-and-white, and Grayscale.
    • Quality:
      • High: The scanning resolution is 1200 dpi. Select this mode when the document to be scanned contains a large amount of content. However, the scanning will take a longer time.
      • Standard: The scanning resolution is 600 dpi. This mode produces scanned documents of good quality.
      • Low: The scanning resolution is 300 dpi. Select this mode when the document to be scanned contains only a small amount of content. The scanning will be faster.
    • Original size: The default value is A4. Options such as A4, A5, and B5 are available. Select a value based on the actual size of the document to be scanned.

  4. When the scanned image is displayed, the scanning is complete. The scanned files will be automatically saved in JPG format on your phone or tablet. Open Gallery on your phone or tablet to view a single scanned JPG file.

  5. If multiple documents need to be scanned, touch CONTINUE, change the document to be scanned, and touch SCAN.

  6. After all documents are scanned, hold and drag to re-order the scanned files. Select the scanned file and choose SAVE AS PDF.

  7. Touch and select a save path. After setting the name of the scanned file, touch SAVE.

  8. Open the corresponding save path in the Files app on your phone or tablet to view the saved PDF file.

Scan documents to a Windows/Linux computer

If you are using a HUAWEI Windows computer, you can use the printer scanning feature of Huawei PC Manager. To do so, open Huawei PC Manager, choose My devices, touch the connected printer card, select Scan, and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the scanning. The following describes how to use the Huawei Print client to scan documents to non-HUAWEI Windows computers.

  1. Open the scanner cover, place the document you want to copy in the scanning area with the front side facing down, against the left and rear corners, and close the cover.

  2. Open the Huawei Print client, and click Scan.

  3. After setting the desired scanning parameters, click SCAN.
    The following introduces the scanning parameters. (The scanning parameters may vary depending on the printer plug-in version. Please refer to the actual interface.)
    • Color mode: It is set to Color by default. Options include Color, Black-and-white, and Grayscale.
    • Scan DPI:
      • High: The scanning resolution is 1200 dpi. Select this mode when the document to be scanned contains a large amount of content. However, the scanning will take a longer time.
      • Standard: The scanning resolution is 600 dpi. This mode produces scanned documents of good quality.
      • Low: The scanning resolution is 300 dpi. Select this mode when the document to be scanned contains only a small amount of content. The scanning will be faster.
    • Scan area size: The default value is A4. Options such as A4, A5, and B5 are available. Select a value based on the actual size of the document to be scanned.

  4. After the scanning is complete, follow the onscreen instruction to select OPEN STORAGE FOLDER, SCAN ANOTHER PAGE, SAVE AS PDF, or DONE.

Scan documents to a macOS computer

  1. Open the scanner cover, place the document you want to copy in the scanning area with the front side facing down, against the left and rear corners, and close the cover.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the Dock to open System Preferences, and choose Printers & Scanners.

  3. Select the corresponding HUAWEI printer from the printer list, and click Scan.

    If your device is connected to a printer through a LAN and you have selected a HUAWEI printer from the printer list, but the Scan button is not displayed, click + below the printer list (or click Add Printer). In the printer list, go to Bonjour multifunction > Add. The Scan button will then be displayed. Perform the following steps to complete scanning.

  4. Place the file that you would like to scan in the scanning area of the printer. In the Scanner window, set the save path (by clicking the folder icon in the lower left corner) and paper size, and click Scan.

    Additional scanning settings can be adjusted by clicking Show Details. For example, you can set the scanned file format to PDF. If you have clicked Show Details, an overview scan is automatically performed after the printer is started, and an image will be available for preview on the left. You can select the area you would like to scan and click Scan to scan only the specified area.

  5. After the scanning is complete, you can view the scanned files in the save path.
