HUAWEI MatePad Paper's battery drains quickly and its standby time is short

Power-intensive scenarios

  • Video apps and other dynamic image scenarios may require the screen to refresh frequently, resulting in high power consumption.
  • When you are writing with a stylus, the screen refreshes frequently, which also increases the power consumption.
  • Running many apps in the background will increase your tablet's power consumption.
  • The higher the tablet's volume and screen brightness are set, the more power the tablet will consume.
  • The notification feature, location feature, and the high refresh rate of apps also increases power consumption.
  • In areas with weak signal, your tablet will search for a network frequently, resulting in higher power consumption.
  • A side button of the tablet is triggered by mistake, resulting in the tablet being unable to enter standby mode. For example, the Power button may be triggered by the gift box or protective case being pressed or held.

Extending your tablet's battery life

Update the system version and app versions.

Update your tablet system and apps to their latest versions to optimize their functionality, performance, and power consumption.

Ensure that the new device is charged so it can self-learn and optimize battery usage.

Use your tablet until the battery level is below 20%, then charge your tablet after it has been in standby mode for 10 minutes. Once the battery is fully charged, continue charging it for another hour.

Extend the battery life when watching videos.

The screen refreshes frequently during video playback, resulting in high power consumption. Try minimize the number of videos you watch.

Extend the battery life when using third-party apps.

Avoid using third-party apps from unofficial channels. Some third-party apps may not be compatible with HUAWEI MatePad Paper, which may cause the screen to refresh frequently, resulting in high power consumption. It is recommended that you use the pre-installed apps or third-party apps downloaded from AppGallery.

Extend the battery life while the screen is in use.

1. Close unnecessary apps running in the background in a timely manner by going to Recent tasks and touching the delete icon.

2. Disable software notifications in batches to reduce power consumption by going to Settings > Notifications > Manage all.

3. You can read using your HUAWEI MatePad Paper without turning the backlight on. Only use the backlight when there is inadequate external light. Reduce the backlight brightness, or turn off the backlight to reduce power consumption. Swipe down from the top of the screen to display Control Panel, touch Light mode, and select Off or Custom.

4. Adjust the volume to a suitable level. A higher volume will consume more power.

5. Enable Power Saving mode to reduce power consumption by going to Settings > Battery > Power Saving mode.

6. It is recommended that you use your tablet in areas with strong signal. If the signal is weak, your tablet will frequently search for networks or increase its transmit power, resulting in higher power consumption.

7. Select an appropriate screen refresh mode. It is recommended that you enable Normal refresh mode in non-video scenarios by going to Settings > Display & brightness > SCREEN > Refresh mode, and selecting Normal.

Extend the battery life when the screen is not in use.

1. Reduce the time for the device to enter Sleep mode when no operation is performed to save power. Go to Settings > Display & brightness > SCREEN > Refresh mode > Sleep.

2. It is recommended that you disable Stay connected while asleep. Automatically disconnect from Wi-Fi when the tablet is in Sleep mode to reduce power consumption. Go to Settings > Battery > More battery settings, and disable Stay connected while asleep.

3. It is recommended that you turn off Bluetooth before your tablet enters Sleep mode for an extended period of time. To turn off Bluetooth, go to Settings, and disable Bluetooth.

4. Check whether the tablet is not entering Standby mode as a result of the side button being pressed, or the screen being triggered by foreign objects.

If this issue persists, back up important data and bring your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
