Connect my phone, tablet, or computer to a HUAWEI laser printer when no Wi-Fi network is available

Connect a phone/tablet to the printer

After your phone/tablet is connected to a printer via hotspot, you can use the printer to print phone/tablet files, but not for scanning.

• Method 1: Press the button to confirm the connection to the printer hotspot (applicable to HarmonyOS and Android phones/tablets)
  1. Enable Wi-Fi on your phone/tablet, open the file you want to print, touch Share > Print, and select a printer whose name starts with "DIRECT-HUAWEI" from the printer list, for example, DIRECT-HUAWEI PixLab X1-xxxx, where xxxx is the last four digits of the S/N of the printer. You can view the S/N on the back of the printer.
     

     The printing method may vary depending on the phone/tablet brand. If you cannot find the printing entry, contact your phone/tablet vendor.

     

  2. After the printer's network status button blinks blue, press it to confirm the connection.
  3. After the printing settings are complete on your phone/tablet, start printing.
• Method 2: Manually enter the password to connect to the printer hotspot (applicable to HarmonyOS, Android, and iOS phones/tablets)
  1. Download the file to be printed to your phone/tablet in advance, as the follow-up procedure requires a connection to the printer hotspot and Internet access will become unavailable.
  2. Press and hold the Start button on the printer for 3 seconds to print the information page, where you'll see the printer's hotspot network identifier and password.
     

     For better security, the printer's hotspot network identifier and password will change every time that the printer is restarted.

     

  3. Access the wireless network connection screen on your phone/tablet, select the printer's hotspot network identifier name, and enter the password to complete the connection.
  4. Open the file to be printed and select Print. In the printer list, select a printer whose name starts with HUAWEI, for example, HUAWEI PixLab X1-xxxx, where xxxx is the last four digits of the printer S/N. You can view the S/N on the back of the printer. Do not select "DIRECT-HUAWEI PixLab X1-xxxx". Otherwise, the system may display a message indicating that the connection and printing fail.
     

     The printing method may vary depending on the phone/tablet brand. If you cannot find the printing entry, contact your phone/tablet vendor.

  5. After the printing settings are complete on your phone/tablet, start printing.

Connect a computer to the printer

If no Wi-Fi network is available, it is recommended that you connect your computer to a printer using a USB cable for more stable connections. If you cannot find the USB cable that came in the package, you can use the printer hotspot to connect the devices.

Connect via a USB cable (recommended, applicable to Windows/macOS/Linux computers)

1. Download the Huawei Print client to a USB flash drive in advance, and then copy the client to the target computer.

   To do so, perform the following: Make sure that the computer has been connected to the Internet. Open a browser on the computer, visit the official website of the printers (HUAWEI PixLab X1: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/printers/pixlab-x1/), find Driver download or Drivers, and download the client installation program package named "HUAWEI Printer (Laser)_XXX" to your USB flash drive based on your computer's system version. Insert the USB flash drive into the computer to be connected and copy the client to the computer.

   

2. Use the USB cable delivered with the printer to connect the computer to the printer.

   

3. Decompress the package to a folder on the computer, and double-click the Huawei Print client installation program.
   • For Windows computers: Decompress the installation package and double-click the .exe file, for example, PixLab_Series for Windows v1.122.exe, to open the Huawei Print client installation program.
   • For macOS computers: Unzip the installation package and double-click the file whose file type is Application, for example, HUAWEI PixLab Series, to open the Huawei Print client installation program.
   • For Linux computers: Decompress the installation package and double-click the .sh file, for example, install.sh, and choose Run in Terminal. In the Terminal window, enter the user name and password for logging in to the computer, to open the Huawei Print client installation program.
     

     The Ubuntu OS is used as an example for Linux computers. The actual interface of those running Red Hat OS may vary slightly.

4. On the Choose connection method and install Huawei Print screen, read and agree to the Huawei Print User Agreement, and select With a USB cable.

   

5. On the Configure printer network screen, click SKIP.

   

6. After the Added successfully message is displayed, click DONE. The Huawei Print client named PixLab Series_Huawei Print will be displayed on the desktop.

   

7. After the computer is connected to the printer, you can print computer files or scan files and transfer them to the computer.

Connect via printer hotspot (applicable to Windows/macOS/Linux computers)

1. Download the Huawei Print client to a USB flash drive in advance, and then copy the client to the target computer.

   To do so, perform the following: Make sure that the computer has been connected to the Internet. Open a browser on the computer, visit the official website of the printers (HUAWEI PixLab X1: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/printers/pixlab-x1/), find Driver download or Drivers, and download the client installation program package named "HUAWEI Printer (Laser)_XXX" to your USB flash drive based on your computer's system version. Insert the USB flash drive into the computer to be connected and copy the client to the computer.

   

2. Press and hold the Start button of the printer for 3 seconds to print the system information page. On the system information page, check the printer hotspot name (that is, the SSID containing DIRECT) and password.
   

   After the printer restarts, the hotspot name and password will change.

   

3. Click the Wi-Fi icon on the right of the taskbar (Windows 11 is used as an example). In the displayed dialog box, click the More icon next to the Wi-Fi icon to open the Internet connection list, select the printer hotspot name, select Connect using a security key instead, and enter the printer hotspot password to complete the connection.

5. On the Choose connection method and install Huawei Print screen, read and agree to the Huawei Print User Agreement, and select Over LAN. (Do not select Via hotspot.)

   

6. After the printer is detected by Huawei Printer, click CONNECT and wait for the printer driver to be installed on the computer.
   

   The four digits following the printer name are the serial number of the printer, which you can find on the nameplate on the back of the printer.

   

7. After the Added successfully message is displayed, click DONE. The Huawei Print client named PixLab Series_Huawei Print will be displayed on the desktop.

   

8. After the computer is connected to the printer, you can print computer files or scan files and transfer them to the computer.
