How to set up the satellite router

This FAQ is applicable to the HUAWEI WiFi Q2 Pro (1 Base + 2 Satellites) & HUAWEI WiFi Q2 Pro (1 Base + 1 Satellite).

The satellite routers that come with your pack do not need to install

Connect your base router to the Internet and verify that its indicator is steady blue. Plug the satellite router into a wall socket in the room where Wi-Fi signal is required. When the indicator on the satellite router turns steady blue, setup is complete.

Your satellite router's Wi-Fi name and password will automatically sync with the base router. As you move about in your home, your phone will automatically connect to the router with the strongest signal.

  • You cannot use a satellite router on its own nor can you pair it with other routers.
  • Your satellite router features a LAN port which you can use to connect to a device such as a computer using an Ethernet cable.
  • If you still experience Wi-Fi signal issues in certain parts of your home, you can purchase more individual satellite routers to expand your Wi-Fi coverage. You can connect a maximum of 15 satellite routers to a single base router (the actual maximum number you can connect depends on environmental factors).

Standalone satellite routers must be connected to the base router manually

Follow the methods below to pair a standalone satellite router to your base router.

Preconditions:

  • You can only use your satellite routers with a HUAWEI WiFi Q2 Pro base router.
  • You have already completed the Internet access wizard for your base router.
  • If you want to add multiple standalone satellite routers, plug your satellite routers into wall sockets and add them to your base router's network one by one.
  • You can connect a maximum of 15 satellite routers to a single base router (the actual maximum number you can connect depends on environmental factors).
  • The Internet connection speeds of satellite routers depend on the quality of the power lines they are connected to and are also affected by nearby electrical devices.

Method 1: Pairing through the HUAWEI AI Life app

  1. Place your standalone satellite router close to your base router (less than one meter away from the base router is recommended) and plug it into a wall socket in the same room as your base router.
  2. Connect your phone to the router's Wi-Fi network.
  3. Open the HUAWEI AI Life app on your phone, which will automatically detect pairable devices nearby. Follow the onscreen prompts to pair your new satellite router. When the indicator on the satellite router turns steady blue, setup is complete.

If no prompt appears, touch in the upper right corner of the app's home screen.

  4. Unplug your satellite router and plug it into the wall socket of a room with poor Wi-Fi signal reception.

Method 2: Pairing through the H button

  1. Place your standalone satellite router close to your base router (less than one meter away from the base router is recommended) and plug it into a wall socket in the same room as your base router.
  2. Wait for approximately 1 minute until the base router's indicator flashes, at which point the base router has found the satellite router. Press the H button on the base router, and the indicator will flash faster, indicating that the two routers are being paired. Once the indicator on the satellite router turns steady blue, the pairing is complete.

  3. Unplug your satellite router and plug it into the wall socket of a room with poor Wi-Fi signal reception.

After the pairing is successful, the Wi-Fi name and password of the satellite router will sync with the base router. As you move about in your home, your phone will automatically connect to the router with the strongest signal. For the best results, it is recommended that there be no more than 2 walls in between your base and satellite routers.
