Unable to install a third-party printer driver on my HUAWEI MateBook E Go

Problem

When a HUAWEI MateBook E Go is connected to certain printers, the printer driver fails to download and install.

The error message may vary depending on the printer.

Cause

Certain older third-party printers are not compatible with the Qualcomm chip platform.

Solution

  1. Use the Mopria protocol of the Windows operating system to wirelessly connect to the printer for printing.
  2. If you are using an HP printer, perform the following steps. For other brands, please consult with the printer brand's customer service.
    • Check whether the printer is compatible with ARM-based Windows devices. For details about supported models, please refer to the HP official website: https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_6516122_en-US-1.pdf. The following image shows supported printer models.

    • If your HP printer is compatible with ARM-based Windows devices, perform the following steps to install the driver:
    1. The HP printer vendor has released a printer driver that is compatible with ARM-based Windows computers. You can download the driver here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-smart-universal-print-driver-series-for-windows/33835514/swItemId/ds-293278-1.

    1. Double-click the downloaded printer driver, and click Unzip to decompress it.

    2. Once decompression is successful, the following CMD window will display.
      1. Please select the installation mode: Enter T (T indicates the Internet connection) and press Enter.
      2. Please enter a port address[mandatory]: Enter the IP address of the printer (which can be viewed in the printer network settings).
      3. You do not need to enter anything on the other lines. Press Enter to skip them. Once the configuration is complete, a message will display indicating that the installation is successful.

    3. Open the file you wish to print, and press Ctrl+P to enter the printing parameters setting screen. Select HP Smart Universal Printing from the printer list, set the other parameters, and follow the onscreen instructions to complete printing.
