Unable to connect to a router's Wi-Fi network

Troubleshooting 1: Check whether the router's Wi-Fi name or password is correct. If not, enter the correct Wi-Fi name and password and try again.

If you forget the router's login password or the Wi-Fi password, restore your router to its factory settings, and follow the user manual to reset the router. Please note that all previous settings will be lost after the router is restored to its factory settings. You will need to set up your router again to connect to the Internet.

Troubleshooting 2: Check whether your device and the router use the same encryption mode.

The router supports four Wi-Fi encryption modes: None, WPA2 PSK, WPA/WPA2-PSK, and WPA2 PSK/WPA3 SAE. If your device does not support your router's encryption type, the device can't connect to the Wi-Fi network. It is recommended that you set your router's encryption type to WPA/WPA2-PSK for better compatibility and try to connect to the Wi-Fi again.

To set the Wi-Fi encryption mode of the router, perform the following steps:

1. Connect your computer to your router's LAN port (if the router port is self-adaptive, either a WAN or LAN port will do). Enter 192.168.3.1 in your browser's address bar to access the web-based management page.

Generally, the address of the web-based management page is 192.168.3.1. However, the address may vary for carrier custom versions. Use the actual address printed on the nameplate at the bottom of the router or consult the carrier.

2. Choose My Wi-Fi, set Security to WPA/WPA2-PSK, and click Save.

Troubleshooting 3: Check whether your device (phone/computer) is on the blocklist/trustlist of your router.

The router supports Wi-Fi blocklists and trustlists, which control access to the Internet. If your device has been blocklisted by the administrator, you will not be able to access the Internet. If the administrator sets up a trustlist but your device is not on the trustlist, you won't be able to access the Internet either.

Method 1: In the AI Life app on your phone

1. Connect your phone to your router's Wi-Fi network.

If you have disabled your router's Wi-Fi network, or you want to set up your router remotely, you can log in to the AI Life app with your HUAWEI ID, without accessing your router's Wi-Fi network.

2. Open the AI Life app. On the Home screen of AI Life, touch the target router to access the router management screen.

3. Check whether your device denied access to the Internet has been added to the blocklist (the trustlist is not available in the AI Life app). If so, touch the device, allow it to access the Internet, and check whether that device can access the Internet.

Method 2: On the web-based management page

1. Connect a computer with normal Internet access to your router's Wi-Fi network. You can also connect your computer to the LAN port on your router using a network cable. In the browser's address bar, enter 192.168.3.1 and log in to the router's web-based management page.

Generally, the address of the web-based management page is 192.168.101.1. However, the address may vary for carrier custom versions. Use the actual address printed on the nameplate at the bottom of the router or consult the carrier.

If the router features self-adaptative network ports, you do not need to distinguish the WAN port from the LAN port.

2. Click Manage Device. Check whether your device that is unable to access the Internet is on the list of devices that are blocked from Internet access. If the device is in the blocklist, allow it to access the Internet, and try again.

You can also go to More Functions > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Access Control and check whether the device is on the blocklist. If so, click the button on the right side of the device to remove the device from the blocklist.

3. Go to More Functions > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Access Control and check whether the device is on the trustlist. If not, click the icon in the upper right corner of the Device List section. Add the required device and try again.

Troubleshooting 4: Disable MLO.

If your Wi-Fi 7 device fails to connect to the Wi-Fi 7 router, you are advised to disable the MLO feature.

Procedure: Log in to the router's web-based management page, click My Wi-Fi, disable MLO, and click Save.
