Unable to enable Huawei Histen sound effect or select Earbud type when connecting my HUAWEI FreeBuds/FreeLace series earbuds to my phone

 

• When Huawei Histen sound effect is enabled on your phone, the effect is enabled by default on all connected Bluetooth devices and wired earbuds. If you do not need to use this sound effect, select Hi-Fi mode.
• You can also open AI Life, access the earbuds card, and go to Sound effects to select sound effects for different devices.

Perform the following to troubleshoot:

1. Make sure that your phone supports Huawei Histen sound effect.
2. Make sure that the earbuds are connected to your phone and worn.
3. If Bluetooth audio codec is set to SBC or HD spatial audio is enabled, Huawei Histen sound effect cannot be enabled. Go to Settings > System & updates > Developer options, and set Bluetooth audio codec to other encoding formats. Also, disable HD spatial audio.
4. If Earbud type is grayed out, it indicates that for Bluetooth devices such as the HUAWEI FreeBuds/FreeLace series earbuds, the EQ sound effects have been adapted to Huawei Histen sound effect. Therefore, you do not need to select the earbud type.
