The phone cannot find a Wi-Fi hotspot |
Problem:
The phone cannot find nearby Wi-Fi hotspots.
Solution:
- Re-enable Wi-Fi on your phone and try again.
- Open Settings, search for and touch Reset network settings, then touch Reset network settings. (Note: This will clear all your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth data.)
- If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
A specific Wi-Fi hotspot cannot be found
- The hotspot name (SSID) may be hidden. Manually add the hotspot by entering the SSID and password of the Wi-Fi hotspot, or disable the SSID hiding function of the router.
- You can perform the following:
- Open Settings, then search for and touch AP band.
- Open Settings, search for and touch Configure hotspot, touch Show advanced options, and touch AP band.
Check the Wi-Fi frequency band selected for your phone, and check whether the searched hotspot has the same frequency band. If your phone only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, it cannot detect a 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspot. In this case, set the frequency band of your phone to 2.4 GHz and try again. Contact the router administrator for assistance if needed.
Note: If the Auto-switch or Prioritize 5 GHz feature is enabled on the router and only 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspots are available, disable this feature. You should now be able to find two types of hotspot names with their only difference being in the suffix (such as HUAWEI-XXXXXX for a 2.4 GHz hotspot and HUAWEI-XXXXXX_5G for a 5 GHz hotspot). You can connect to either of them based on your requirements.
- Check whether the encryption type of the router is set to Enhanced Open, WPA3 Personal, or WPA3 Enterprise. (Some phone models do not support the preceding encryption modes.) If so, change the encryption mode of the router to Open/Enhanced Open, WPA2/WPA3 Personal, or WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise, as shown in the following figure.
- If the issue persists, change the frequency band and channel settings of the router. Change your router's channels to 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and to channel 149 for 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and then try again.
- If you are not using a local edition phone (for example, when using a China edition phone outside China or using an international edition phone in China), the issue occurs because the Wi-Fi network channels vary depending on the countries and regions. In this case, insert a local SIM card, register with the local network, and then search for the Wi-Fi hotspot again.
- If this issue occurs when using a third-party Wi-Fi app to search for Wi-Fi hotspots, perform the following:
- Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel, then enable Location.
- Open Settings, search for and touch , select , and touch or to check whether the location permission is enabled for the app.
- Check whether the Wi-Fi hotspot can be found on your phone's Wi-Fi settings screen. If so, the issue lies with the third-party Wi-Fi app. In this case, update the app in Huawei AppGallery or use a similar app instead.
If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
