[HUAWEI] The body fat percentage on my scale is inaccurate

If your weight has dropped recently but your body fat percentage hasn't, don't be worried because this is perfectly normal. Short-term exercise may help you lose weight but this is mainly due to water loss rather than a reduction in body fat. Long-term exercise is needed to reduce your body fat percentage.

If your fat percentage data is inaccurate, perform the following steps.

Fill in your gender, height, and other personal information

Open the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Profile, and correctly enter your Gender, Height, and other personal information. These settings will influence the fat percentage data. Please fill in your correct personal information.

Follow correct measurement practices, habits, and poses

  • Before weighing yourself, place your scale on a hard, flat, and open surface, and make sure that there are no foreign objects at the four corners of the scale.
  • Make sure that the bottom of your feet and the scale surface are clean, and stand barefoot on the scale, so that your feet come into full contact with the electrodes on the scale.
  • Stand upright and balanced during the measurement. Avoid moving your body or feet. Incorrect posture, such as bending your waist or knees, placing your knees together, or moving your feet during the measurement can all lead to inaccurate results.
  • It is recommended that you weigh yourself at the same time every day under the same conditions (for example, before having your breakfast or two hours after a meal), for more accurate comparisons. The weight, body fat, and heart rate measurements may change due to diet or fitness regimen.
  • If you are using a HUAWEI Scale 2 Pro/HUAWEI Scale 3 Pro, you'll also need to take note of the following:
    • Keep your feet apart, and stretch your arms forward without touching your body, with your elbow joints straightened, and your hands tightly clasped and not touching each other.

Description of data discrepancy generated by different body fat measurement devices

Situation

Description

Body fat data measured by the HUAWEI body fat scale differs from data given by other brands' body fat scales.

Body fat scales of different brands use different algorithms, which produce different results. HUAWEI body fat scales feature the HUAWEI TruFit algorithm, which delivers high measurement accuracy. To have a consistent picture of your body fat, avoid frequently measuring with different scales.

Body fat data measured by the HUAWEI eight-electrode body fat scale differs from data given by the four-electrode body fat scale.

The Pro version of the HUAWEI body fat scale measures body data with eight electrodes.

  • If there's a significant difference between your upper and lower body (for example, your upper body is very muscular), the eight-electrode scale will give you more accurate information.
  • If there's no significant difference between your upper and lower body, data difference between the four-electrode and eight-electrode scales will be marginal.

Body fat data measured by the HUAWEI body fat scale differs from data given by gym equipment.

  • If your HUAWEI body fat scale gives you a higher body fat percentage than gym equipment, but the difference is less than 2%: This is normal because water levels in the body change throughout the day. It is recommended that you weigh yourself at the same time every day under the same conditions (for example, before having your breakfast or two hours after a meal), for more accurate comparisons.
  • If your HUAWEI scale gives you a body fat percentage more than 2% higher than gym equipment: You can get the most accurate data by going to a doctor for a DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) measurement.
  • If your HUAWEI scale gives you a lower body fat percentage than gym equipment: This may be caused by an incorrect measurement posture, like bending your arms or having your legs close together. You can check the Huawei Health app for the correct posture. It is recommended that you weigh yourself at the same time every day under the same conditions (for example, before having your breakfast or two hours after a meal), for more accurate comparisons.
