Cleaning up disks on a HUAWEI computer

Scenario 1: Cleaning up the C drive

Scenario 2: Cleaning up other non-system disks such as the D drive

  • Once disk data is cleared, it cannot be retrieved. Back up the data in advance, close the document or web page that is being edited, and disconnect other external storage devices. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
  • Before you get started, log in to the computer as an administrator.
  • You can visit the Microsoft official website to learn more about disk cleanup and how to free up drive space in Windows.

Scenario 1: Cleaning up the C drive

  1. Enter "disk cleanup" in the search box on the taskbar at the bottom and open Disk Cleanup.

  2. Select the drive you want to clean up under Drives (for example, Windows (C:)), and then click OK.

Generally, Disk Cleanup clears temporary system files. Therefore, it takes some time to calculate the space that can be released.

  3. Under Files to delete:, select the files you wish to delete, and click OK.

    • By default, Downloaded Program Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Thumbnails are selected. If you do not wish to delete these files, deselect them.
    • After selecting a file, you can view the description of the file type in the Description section.
    • Deleted files cannot be retrieved. For example, if you select Recycle Bin and delete it, you cannot restore the deleted file from Recycle Bin.

  4. In the displayed window, select Delete Files.

This operation will directly delete the files instead of moving them to the recycle bin.

  5. To free up more space, click Clean up system files in Disk Cleanup, and select the drive to be cleaned up (for example, Windows (C:)). Follow the onscreen instructions to delete the files.

  6. Refer to here if the remaining space in the C drive is still insufficient after the preceding operations.

    • If you select Windows Update Cleanup and then delete it, the system version will not be able to go back. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
    • By default, Downloaded Program Files, Temporary Internet Files, Device Driver Packages and Thumbnails are selected. If you do not wish to delete these files, deselect them.
    • After selecting a file, you can view the description of the file type in the Description section.

Scenario 2: Cleaning up other non-system disks such as the D drive

It is recommended that you back up personal data in non-system disks, such as the D drive, to an external storage device or cloud storage, before manually delete the non-system disks.

  1. Back up data to an external storage device, such as a USB flash drive or portable hard disk

If you want to back up data in third-party apps (such as WeChat and QQ), contact the corresponding vendors.

    1. Insert an external storage device into your computer, press Win () + E to open File Explorer, and select your external storage device.

    2. Select all the important data you want to back up, and then copy and paste it to your external storage device.

After the backup is complete, remove the external storage device in a timely manner to prevent data exceptions caused by other operations.

  2. Download third-party apps (such as Baidu Wangpan) from your computer and upload important data for it to be backed up.
