Problem

Cause

Problem 1

A message is displayed indicating connection fails when the button needs to pressed to connect the phone/tablet and printer.

If the printer's name starts with "DIRECT" and the user doesn't press the network button on the printer's panel, the network indicator will be in blue.

Problem 2

The printer is setting up a direct connection to phone/tablet A or is printing with direct connection, while phone/tablet B is also trying to set up a direct connection to the printer. In this case, the connection between phone/tablet B and the printer will fail.

When the printer is setting up a direct connection to a device or is printing with direct connection, direct connection setup with other devices will fail.

Problem 3

A message is displayed indicating connection fails after the printer is restarted and connected to the phone/tablet via the printer's hotspot.

After the printer is restarted, the printer's hotspot network identifier and password will change.

Problem 4

Direct connection fails when the phone/tablet is being used for Multi-Screen Collaboration or screen casting.

Direct connection is not supported when the phone/tablet is being used for Multi-Screen Collaboration or screen casting.

Problem 5

The printer's hotspot name can't be found on the phone/tablet when the user confirms the connection to the printer's hotspot by pressing the button.

  1. Direct connection allows the printer to be connected to four devices at the same time. When the printer needs to connect to a fifth device, the printer's name can't be found on the fifth device.
  2. Wi-Fi is not enabled on the phone/tablet.

Problem 6

When the user enters the password to connect to the printer's hotspot, the phone/tablet can't find the printer's hotspot and can't connect to the printer.

  1. A network has been configured for the printer.
  2. The printer's hotspot is disabled.

Solution to Problem 1

Press the blue network button to confirm the connection between the phone/tablet and printer. For details, refer to Connect my phone, tablet, or computer to a HUAWEI laser printer when no Wi-Fi network is available.

Solution to Problem 2

If the printer is setting up a direct connection to phone/tablet A or is printing with direct connection, wait until the current connection has been set up or the printing with direct connection is complete, and then connect phone/tablet B to the printer.

Solution to Problem 3

  1. Power on the printer, press and hold the Start button for 3 seconds to print the information page, where you'll see the printer's hotspot network identifier and password.
  2. Access the wireless network connection screen on your phone/tablet, select the printer's hotspot network identifier name, and enter the password to complete the connection.

Solution to Problem 4

Disable Multi-Screen Collaboration or screen casting, connect to the printer, and then try printing with direct connection.

Solution to Problem 5

  1. Do not print with direct connection when the printer is connected to multiple devices at the same time.
  2. Before using password-free direct connection, enable Wi-Fi on your phone/tablet.

Solution to Problem 6

Check whether a network has been configured for the printer.
  • Check whether the network indicator on the printer's panel is steady on.

  • If the network indicator is steady on, it indicates that a network has been configured and you can start printing.
  • If the network indicator is blinking, it indicates that no network has been configured. In this case, you need to set up direct connection via the printer's hotspot and then start printing.
  • If the network indicator is off, the network has been changed or disabled after network configuration. Press and hold the network button for more than 3 seconds until the network indicator blinks, and then set up direct connection for printing.
  • Press and hold the Start button on the printer for 3 seconds and print the information page, where you'll see whether there is a network name under Wireless Network > Network identifier. If not, it indicates that no network has been configured.
    • If a network has been configured for the printer, you can start printing.
    • If no network has been configured for the printer, press and hold the Start button on the printer for 3 seconds and print the information page, where you'll see whether the printer's hotspot has been disabled.
