1 Basic Functions
1.1 Does my M-Pen support copy and paste functions?
The high-precision M-Pen that comes with your HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro supports copy and paste functions. You can copy and paste things in the way that you do it with your finger.
1.2 Can I capture screenshots with my M-Pen?
Yes, you can capture screenshots with your M-Pen in Tablet mode. To take a screenshot, press and hold the lower function button (as shown in the following figure), and draw an enclosed circle on the device screen.
This function is not supported in Desktop mode.
1.3 Does my M-Pen support high-precision drawing?
Yes. The high-precision M-Pen designed for HUAWEI Media M5 Pro features 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity. Therefore, it can accurately calculate the tilt angle of the pen front and digitally capture all hand movements, enabling users to draw fine lines and use it for high-precision drawing such as painting or engineering drawing.
1.4 Does my HUAWEI MediaPad M5 support original handwriting?
Yes. The HUAWEI MediaPad M5 series supports original handwriting, but you can only use this function with the corresponding app installed in your device.
1.5 When using the M-Pen, can I lay both my palm and the pen tip on the tablet screen?
Yes. You can lay both your palm and the pen tip on the tablet screen. The high-precision M-Pen that comes with your MediaPad M5 Pro is able to prevent mistouches.
2.1 Does the HUAWEI MediaPad M5 series support styluses?
Yes, all HUAWEI MediaPad M5 tablets support styluses.
Only the HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro (with M-Pen) supports active styluses. You are advised to use the M-Pen that delivered with your HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro.
The HUAWEI MediaPad M5 10.8-inch version and HUAWEI MediaPad M5 8.4-inch version do not support active styluses. You can use passive styluses with these tablets.
2.2 What are the differences between an active stylus and a passive stylus?
An active stylus needs to be charged, while a passive stylus does not. An active stylus can send signals, supports tilting angles, and features pressure sensitivity, while a passive stylus only works as your finger.
2.3 Can I use the stylus for the previous-generation tablet on the HUAWEI MediaPad M5 series?
Your HUAWEI Media M5 Pro comes with a high-precision M-Pen which features 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, is able to accurately calculate the tilt angle of the pen front, and can be charged by uncovering the charging port under the pen clip.
You can also use the stylus designed for HUAWEI MediaPad M2 10.0, a previous-generation Huawei tablet, with your HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro. However, the stylus for HUAWEI MediaPad M2 10.0 features 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity only and does not support the tilt angle of the pen front. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the use effect. You are advised to use the high-precision M-Pen that comes with your HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro.
2.4 Can I use the M-Pen that comes with my HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro on other products?
Yes. You can use the M-Pen that comes with your HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro on products such as HUAWEI MediaPad M2 10.0, MateBook, MateBook E, with basic writing functions supported. For other Huawei tablets or phones, refer to subsequent product updates of M-Pen.
Your M-Pen does not support non-Huawei devices.
Note：Huawei Tablet M5-Pro only supports the stylus M-Pen,M-PEN used on the M5-Pro, not supported on the Mate 20 phone.
2.5 How do I charge the M-Pen for my HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro? What are the battery capacity, battery type, and standby time of the M-Pen?
Rotate the pen clip to uncover the charging port, and connect the charger to the charging port to charge your M-Pen. The battery capacity for your M-Pen is 53 mAh, and the battery type is lithium-ion polymer battery. With a 100 minutes' full charge, you can use your M-Pen consecutively for 50 hours in normal conditions.
2.6 Do HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro and HUAWEI MediaPad M2 10.0 offer the same stylus model?
No. The stylus model for HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro and that for HUAWEI MediaPad M2 10.0 are not the same.
The high-precision M-Pen delivered with the HUAWEI Media M5 Pro features 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, is able to accurately calculate the tilt angle of the pen front, and can be charged by uncovering the charging port under the pen clip, while the M-Pen for HUAWEI MediaPad M2 10.0 features only 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity and does not support pen front tilting.
2.7 Does the M-Pen of my HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro enjoy the same warranty policy?
Yes. Your M-Pen enjoys a warranty period of one year, which is the same as that of your tablet.
3.1 What should I do if my M-Pen falls on the ground and its pen tip stops working?
Your M-Pen consists of precision components and has a sensor directly connected to the pen tip. If you drop the M-Pen on the ground with the pen tip facing down, the sensor will be hit directly. As a result, the internal components are damaged and cannot work properly.
You are advised to replace a new M-Pen, take and place it gently, and avoid dropping it on the ground.
3.2 Why can't I enable the floating menu with my M-Pen?
This may be caused by incorrect operations. Normally, you can press and hold the lower function button, and tap the device screen with your M-Pen to display the floating menu. However, if your pen tip moves at the same time due to incorrect direction or improper force, your tablet may judge the operation as sliding or marking. As a result, the floating menu cannot be displayed.
When enabling the floating menu, ensure that the M-Pen is perpendicular to the tablet and avoid sliding it on the screen.
3.3 In Desktop mode, why can't I use the M-Pen to write on the tablet after connecting a keyboard to it?
After you connect a keyboard (USB keyboard, Bluetooth keyboard, and customized keyboard) to your tablet in Desktop mode, the handwriting input method can no longer be enabled. Therefore, you cannot use the M-Pen to write on the tablet.
1. In Desktop mode, disconnect the keyboard that is connected to your tablet, and then use your M-Pen to write on the tablet.
2. In Desktop mode, it is recommended that you use a keyboard to enter texts for better use experience.
3. If you want to use both the keyboard and M-Pen for text input, switch to Tablet mode.
3.4 In Tablet mode, why can't I use the M-Pen to write on the tablet after connecting a keyboard to it?
This may occur if you toggle off Show virtual keyboard after you connect a keyboard (USB keyboard, Bluetooth keyboard, and customized keyboard) to your tablet. As a result, you cannot display the virtual keyboard and write with your M-Pen.
After connecting a keyboard to your tablet in Tablet mode, press the Shift and space keys at the same time to display the Select input method screen, as shown in the following figure, and toggle on Show virtual keyboard. You can then use your M-Pen to enter texts.
