Troubleshooting for slow charging of HUAWEI phones/tablets

Charging device fault

The charging speed of your device is limited by the charging link. For example, if the data cable is aging, the charging port is dirty, or the charger is damaged, the charging speed will be affected. In this case, you can check whether any of these problems occurs. If the device is unable to charge in SuperCharge mode, please refer to Unable to charge devices in fast charging/SuperCharge mode using a HUAWEI charger, or the fast charging/SuperCharge icon is not displayed.

Keep your phone well-cooled

To ensure device charging safety and protect the battery, we have implemented temperature control during charging. If the temperature is too high, the charging speed will be reduced. Therefore, it is recommended that you charge your device when the screen is off.

Charging stops at 60%

Battery aging is another important factor that may make your device charge slowly. If your device stops charging when the battery level reaches 60%, you are advised to go to a Huawei Customer Service Center for a battery test.

Impact of non-standard chargers

Using non-standard chargers for a long time may damage the charging link, and even the charging IC. It is recommended that you use the standard charger.

After the system is updated

After your phone/tablet is updated, some apps may run in the background to optimize the device performance, which consumes power and may cause the charging speed to decrease. Wait for a few days and continue to observe the charging status. During this period, place your phone/tablet in a well-ventilated place to charge.

Charging temperature limit is enabled

Charging temperature limit will relieve your phone from overheating, but will affect the charging speed. Check whether Charging temperature limit is enabled on your phone. Go to Settings > About phone and tap the version number seven times in quick succession until a message displays indicating that you are now in developer mode.

After entering the developer mode, go to Settings > System & updates > Developer options > Charging temperature limit. If Charging temperature limit is enabled, disable it.

  1. For HarmonyOS 5.0 or later, entering the developer mode will restart your device.
  2. To disable developer mode:
  • Open Settings, search for and access Developer options, and disable Developer options.

If the issue persists

If the issue persists, please call the Huawei customer service hotline, or back up your data and take your device, charger, data cable, and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
