Unable to pair my HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard with my tablet

The following steps only apply if your tablet is used with a HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard. If you are using a HUAWEI Smart Keyboard, please refer to Unable to pair my HUAWEI Smart Keyboard with a tablet.

  • Check the tablet model by going to Settings > About tablet. This FAQ applies to the following tablet models: TXZ-xxx, SLG-xxx, MRDI-xxx, WEB-xxx, MRO-xxx, BKY-xxx, TGR-xxx, PCE-xxx, DBY2-xxx, GOT-xxx, WGR-xxx, WGRR-xxx, DBY-xxx, MRR-xxx, and MRX-xxx.
  • Check the keyboard model by finding the model information (for example, C-Marx-Keyboard) on the keyboard nameplate label model.
  1. Check whether the keyboard matches your tablet by referring to Compatibility between HUAWEI tablets and keyboards. For details about how to connect the keyboard, see Pair my HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard with my tablet.
  2. Attach the keyboard to the device to charge the keyboard. Keep the keyboard attached for at least 10 minutes, then press the Caps key to check whether the Caps key indicator turns on.

For descriptions about the Caps indicator status, see Caps indicator on the HUAWEI Smart Keyboard/Smart Magnetic Keyboard.

    • If the Caps indicator does not turn on, take your tablet, keyboard, and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.

    • If the Caps indicator turns on (not necessarily steady on), try the following possible solutions in order until the issue is resolved.
  3. Attach the bottom of the keyboard flatly to the groove or the location where the magnetic force is the greatest. On the tablet, disable Bluetooth or NearLink, and then enable it again. Attach the keyboard to the tablet again.
    • For HarmonyOS 4.X or earlier: Go to Settings > Bluetooth or Settings > More connections > NearLink.
  4. If you touched CANCEL in the displayed prompt after attaching the keyboard to the device, turn off the device screen, wait for 10 seconds, then turn on the screen again, and re-attach the keyboard to the device.
  5. On the tablet, tap UNPAIR to unpair the keyboard, and then attach the keyboard to the tablet again.

To unpair the keyboard, perform the following steps:

    • For HarmonyOS 4.X or earlier: Go to Settings > Bluetooth > PAIRED DEVICES or Settings > More connections > NearLink > PAIRED DEVICES, tap the icon next to the keyboard name, and select UNPAIR.

  6. Press and hold the Power button until the Restart/Power-off button displays on screen. Select Restart to restart the tablet and try re-attaching the keyboard to the tablet.

If the issue persists, try the following:

  • HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard fails to connect to the device after being attached to the device and a prompt displays

On the tablet, check whether a new version is available. If so, follow the onscreen instructions to update the device and try re-connecting the device to the keyboard.

    • For HarmonyOS 4.X or earlier: Go to Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap CHECK FOR UPDATES to check whether a new version is available.

  • HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard cannot be used after being connected to the device
    1. If the keyboard status is normal but no keyboard information displays in the tablet's Bluetooth pairing list, your keyboard may be connected to another device. This is the case when the following is verified: When you press any key on the keyboard, the tablet does not respond. When you press the Caps key (caps lock) on the keyboard, the Caps indicator is steady on. If so, disable Bluetooth on the device that is currently connected to the keyboard. Alternatively, try pairing or connecting your tablet again somewhere far away from the device that is currently connected to the keyboard.
    2. Try resetting the keyboard if it is compatible with HUAWEI MatePad Pro 10.8-inch 2019, MatePad 12 X series, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch, MatePad 11.5"S, MatePad 11.5 S 2026, and MatePad Pro 12.2-inch.
      • If the keyboard is compatible with MatePad Pro 10.8-inch 2019, perform the following steps: Detach the keyboard from the device, hold down on the D, F, and U keys on the keyboard at the same time, and attach the device to the keyboard groove for more than one minute, then release the keys when the Caps indicator blinks once.
      • This method is applicable to the MatePad 12 X series, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch series, MatePad 11.5"S, MatePad 11.5 S 2026, and MatePad Pro 12.2-inch series. To connect the keyboard to the tablet again, press and hold the D, F, and U keys on the keyboard in sequence for more than 20 seconds. The keyboard will automatically restart and reset. After the reset is successful, the keyboard can be connected again.

    3. Update the tablet system and keyboard firmware versions, and then connect the keyboard to the tablet again.
      1. Update the tablet system version.
        • For HarmonyOS 4.X or earlier: Go to Settings > System & updates > Software update, and tap CHECK FOR UPDATES. If a new version is available, update your system to the latest version as soon as possible.

      2. Update the keyboard version.
        • Bluetooth keyboard:

For HarmonyOS 4.X or earlier: Go to Settings > Bluetooth on the tablet, tap the gear icon on the right of the keyboard, and go to Firmware update > CHECK FOR UPDATES. If a new version is available, the new version details screen will display. Tap DOWNLOAD & INSTALL to start the keyboard update.

        • NearLink keyboard:

For HarmonyOS 4.X or earlier: Go to Settings > Accessibility features on the tablet, tap the gear icon on the right of the keyboard, and go to Firmware update > CHECK FOR UPDATES. If a new version is available, the new version details screen will display. Tap DOWNLOAD & INSTALL to start the keyboard update.

      3. Once the system update is complete, connect the devices again.
