Unable to pair my HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard with my tablet

The following steps only apply if your tablet is used with a HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard. If you are using a HUAWEI Smart Keyboard, please refer to Unable to pair my HUAWEI Smart Keyboard with a tablet.

  • Check the tablet model by going to Settings > About tablet. This FAQ is applicable to the following tablet models: TGR-xxx/PCE-xxx/DBY2-xxx/GOT-xxx/WGR-xxx/WGRR-xxx/DBY-xxx/MRR-xxx/MRX-xxx.
  • Check the keyboard model by finding the model information (for example, C-Marx-Keyboard) on the keyboard nameplate label model.
  1. Go to List of products compatible with HUAWEI tablet keyboards to check whether your tablet is compatible with your keyboard model.
  2. Attach the keyboard to the device to charge the keyboard. Keep the keyboard attached for at least 10 minutes, then press the Caps key to check whether the Caps key indicator turns on.

For explanations about the Caps indicator status, see Indicators on the Caps key on the keyboard.

    • If the Caps indicator does not turn on, take your tablet, keyboard, and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.

    • If the Caps indicator turns on (not necessarily steady on), try the following possible solutions in order until the issue is resolved.
  3. Attach the bottom of the keyboard flatly to the groove or the location where the magnetic force is the greatest. Go to Settings > Bluetooth or Settings > More connections > NearLink, turn Bluetooth or NearLink off then on, and re-attach the keyboard to the tablet.

  4. If you touched CANCEL in the displayed dialog box after attaching the keyboard to the device, turn off the device screen, wait for 10 seconds, then turn on the screen again, and re-attach the keyboard to the device.
  5. Go to Settings > Bluetooth > PAIRED DEVICES or Settings > More connections > NearLink > PAIRED DEVICES, touch Unpair, then re-attach the keyboard to the tablet.

  6. Press and hold the Power button until the Restart/Power-off button displays on screen. Select Restart to restart the tablet and try re-attaching the keyboard to the tablet.

If the issue persists, try the following:

  • HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard fails to connect to the device after being attached to the device and a dialog box displays

On the tablet screen, touch Settings > System & updates > Software update, and touch CHECK FOR UPDATES to check for new versions. If a new version is available, follow the onscreen instructions to update the device and try re-connecting the device to the keyboard.

  • HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard cannot be used after being connected to the device
    1. If the keyboard status is normal but no keyboard information displays in the tablet's Bluetooth pairing list, your keyboard may be connected to another device. This is the case when the following is verified: When you press any key on the keyboard, the tablet does not respond. When you press the Caps key (caps lock) on the keyboard, the Caps indicator is steady on. If so, disable Bluetooth on the device that is currently connected to the keyboard. Alternatively, try pairing or connecting your tablet again somewhere far away from the device that is currently connected to the keyboard.
    2. Try resetting the keyboard if it is compatible with HUAWEI MatePad Pro 10.8-inch 2019, MatePad Air, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch, and MatePad 11.5"S.
      • If the keyboard is compatible with MatePad Pro 10.8-inch 2019, perform the following steps: Detach the keyboard from the device, hold down on the D, F, and U keys on the keyboard at the same time, and attach the device to the keyboard groove for more than one minute, then release the keys when the Caps indicator blinks once.
      • If the keyboard is compatible with MatePad Air/MatePad Pro 13.2-inch/MatePad 11.5"S, press the D, F, and U keys on the keyboard in sequence and hold down on the keys for more than 20 seconds. The keyboard will automatically restart and reset. Once it resets, try re-attaching the keyboard.

    3. Update the tablet system and keyboard firmware versions, and then connect the keyboard to the tablet again.
      1. Update the tablet's system version by going to Settings > System & updates > Software update, and touching CHECK FOR UPDATES. If an update is available, update your tablet to the latest version.

      2. Update the keyboard version.
        • For Bluetooth keyboards: Update the keyboard version by going to Settings > Bluetooth on the tablet, touching the gear icon on the right of the keyboard, and going to Firmware update > CHECK FOR UPDATES. If a new version is available, the new version details screen will display. Touch DOWNLOAD & INSTALL to start the keyboard update.

        • For NearLink keyboards: Update the keyboard version by going to Settings > Accessibility features > Keyboard > Firmware update > CHECK FOR UPDATES. If a new version is available, the new version details screen will display. Touch DOWNLOAD & INSTALL to start the keyboard update.
      3. Once the system update is complete, connect the devices again.
