Using Smart charge/Battery Protection on my HUAWEI laptop

When the laptop has been connected to a power adapter for a long time, or is often fully charged at high temperatures, the battery ages more quickly. Smart charge/Battery Protection is able to effectively slow down battery aging and prolong the battery lifespan.

  • After taking effect, Smart charge/Battery Protection is valid even when the device is powered off.
  • When you uninstall Huawei PC Manager, Smart charge will be automatically enabled.
  1. Enter Huawei PC Manager in the search box () on the taskbar and open it. Click in the upper right corner and select Settings.

  2. Enable or disable Smart charge/Battery Protection depending on the version of Huawei PC Manager.

    • Operations vary depending on the Huawei PC Manager version. You are advised to update the BIOS and Huawei PC Manager to their latest versions before the operations.
    • When the device is connected to a power adapter, the battery level will reach 100%. After Smart charge is enabled, the feature will take effect after your computer is charged for 72 consecutive hours , regardless of whether it is powered on or off. In this process, the battery level will gradually decrease to 70%. Once the power adapter is disconnected during this period, you will need to charge the computer for 72 hours for the feature to take effect.

When the version of Huawei PC Manager is 13.0.2.370 or later:

Click Battery, then enable or disable Smart charge.

    • After Smart charge is enabled, the battery level is controlled to 70% when the power adapter is connected for a long time or the battery temperature is too high. This effectively slows down battery aging and prolongs the battery lifespan.
    • After Smart charge is disabled, you can set the maximum battery level under Custom charging limit. For example, if you set the maximum battery level to 50%, charging will stop when the battery level reaches 50%.

The Battery option may be displayed as Optimization on certain device models. After turning off the Smart charge switch, you can set the maximum charge capacity under Charging limit.

When the version of Huawei PC Manager is earlier than 13.0.2.370:

Click Optimization, then enable or disable Smart charge.

After Smart charge is enabled, the charging mode options are hidden. Therefore, if you want to set the maximum battery level, disable Smart charge first, and then select a charging mode (such as Home, Office, or Travel).

    • The Smart charge switch may be displayed as Battery Protection on certain device models. After turning on the Battery Protection switch, you can set the charging mode.
    • If Home or Office is selected, your laptop will not be fully charged when it is powered on/off and connected to a power adapter.
Home mode: Applicable when your computer is constantly connected to a power adapter.
    • When the laptop is just connected to a power adapter, it starts charging until the battery level reaches 70% if the battery level is lower than 70%, or the battery level does not increase if the battery level is 70% or higher. This is normal.
    • When the power adapter is always connected, the laptop starts charging if its battery level is lower than 40%, and stops charging when the battery level reaches 70%.
Office mode: Applicable when a power adapter could be plugged in and unplugged at any time.
    • When the laptop is just connected to a power adapter, it starts charging until the battery level reaches 90% if the battery level is lower than 90%, or the battery level does not increase if the battery level is 90% or higher. This is normal.
    • When the power adapter is always connected, the laptop starts charging if its battery level is lower than 70%, and stops charging when the battery level reaches 90%.

Travel mode: Applicable when your device cannot be connected to a power adapter for a long period of time.

In this mode, charging starts when the battery level is lower than 95% and automatically stops when the battery level reaches 100%, and the battery level does not increase if the battery level is 95% or higher. This is normal.
