Internet access using mobile data is slow on my HUAWEI phone/tablet
Internet access using mobile data is slow on my HUAWEI phone/tablet |
Incorrect use of a magnetic or metal protective case, magnetic support, or magnetic cup, background network usage, poor network quality, mobile data speed limit, SIM card fault, app fault, or incorrect settings may result in slow Internet access.
If Internet access using mobile data is slow on your device, perform the following steps:
Avoid using a magnetic or a metal protective case, magnetic support, or magnetic cup
Metal and magnetic materials may interfere with the signal.
Check whether any download task is in progress in the background
High-bandwidth downloads in the background are using up network resources, resulting in slow Internet speeds. It is recommended that you clear the background tasks and try again.
- Gesture navigation: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to display the recent tasks screen and tap the trash can icon at the bottom.
- Three-key navigation: Tap the third key to display the recent tasks screen and tap the trash can icon at the bottom.
Poor network connection
It is recommended that you compare your device with another device using a SIM card from the same carrier. If the same issue occurs with the other device, the issue may be caused by poor network quality. In this case, try moving to another location, and try again.
The network speed may vary depending on the network standard (3G/4G/5G). Make sure that the network standard of the device is the same as that of your device.
Check whether your SIM card is faulty
- The amount of mobile data consumed exceeds your limit
Some unlimited mobile data plans may limit Internet access speed once the amount of data consumed exceeds a certain threshold. You can contact your carrier to check if you have consumed more data than what is permitted under your plan.
- Slow Internet access when the SIM card is used in a place other than the area where it was registered
If the Internet access rate is limited or stuttering occurred when the SIM card is used in a place other than the area where the phone number was registered, return to the area where the number was registered. It is recommended that you contact the carrier's customer service to reset the SIM card's network settings (or go to a customer service center to apply for a new SIM card and try again).
- The secondary card is invalid or has a negative balance
If the secondary SIM card has a negative balance or is invalid, your Internet access may be affected.
Open Settings, input SIM management or Dual SIM management in the top search box, and disable the secondary SIM card or take it out.
- IoT card/data-only SIM card
Some IoT or data-only SIM cards may experience slow network speeds due to differences in subscription information. You can try again with a normal SIM card.
Check whether the app is at fault
If your device is experiencing slow Internet access when using certain apps or websites:
- Go to the recent tasks screen, find the app with a slow network speed, and swipe up to close it. Then open it and try again.
- Uninstall and reinstall the app and try again.
- If the issue persists, there may be a server exception. It is recommended that you contact the app/website.
Disable Power Saving mode (or Power Saving mode)
It is recommended that you disable Power Saving mode or Power Saving mode by going to Settings > Battery > Power Saving mode/ULTRA POWER SAVING MODE/Power Saving mode, and make sure that the battery level is higher than 20%.
- If Power Saving mode or Power Saving mode is enabled or the battery level is low, your device will restrict certain features from working in order to extend the battery life.
Reset the APN and network settings, and disable VPN
If the issue remains unresolved, perform the following steps:
- Resetting APN
Open Settings, search for APNs in the top search box, and tap Access Point Names to access the Mobile data settings screen. Tap Access Point Names again, tap
/
in the upper right corner, and select Reset to default.
- Resetting the network settings
Open Settings, search for and access Reset network settings, and tap Reset network settings.
- Disable VPN
If the key icon is displayed in the status bar, you may be using a VPN. An unstable VPN may cause Internet access issues. You can search for "VPN" in Settings and find and access the VPN settings screen. It is recommended that you choose to disconnect the VPN or disable the VPN software (accelerator or proxy software) as required.
This will delete all of your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection records. The lock screen password is required for verification when doing so.
If the issue remains unresolved
If the issue remains unresolved, contact the Huawei customer service hotline, or back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
