If your device displays a message indicating that memory is insufficient, perform the following steps:
Open Settings and tap Storage to check the storage space.
Scenario 1: The used storage space is greater than 90%
If the used storage space is greater than 90%, a prompt will be displayed, asking you to clean up the storage space. Perform the steps below to troubleshoot.
Fast space release
Clean up storage space
- It is recommended that you go to Settings > Storage > Clean up by referring to Clean Up Phone Storage. Open Optimizer or Tablet Manager, tap
in the upper right corner, and turn on the switch for automatically deleting trash files. - It is recommended that you uninstall apps you rarely use, as installing too many apps may consume a large amount of storage space.
- It is recommended that you clear the Recently deleted files in Files and Gallery to free up space. (The files cannot be restored after being deleted. Exercise caution when performing this operation.)
- It is recommended that you open an app that consumes a large amount of storage space and clear the app data. For details, contact the corresponding customer service.
Check whether you have created multiple user accounts or PrivateSpace
Adding multiple user accounts or enabling PrivateSpace will take up storage space on your device. It is recommended that you delete user accounts that you do not use or delete PrivateSpace.
Ignore this solution if you have not created multiple user accounts or PrivateSpace or these features are not supported on your device.
Deep cleanup
Back up Gallery data to Cloud
If the memory is insufficient, you can back up Gallery data to Cloud.
Go to Settings > HUAWEI ID > Cloud > Apps that use Cloud > Gallery, open Sync Gallery, and select the albums you wish to sync to release the local storage space.
Move large files to an external memory card or USB flash drive
- If your device supports an external memory card, it is recommended that you move your photos, audios, videos, documents, and other files from Internal storage to a memory card to free up storage space. The operation is as follows:
Go to Files > Browse > Phone/My tablet (internal storage), tap and hold the file you want to move, and tap Move to transfer it to the external memory card.
Due to performance and data security reasons, users cannot install third-party apps to an external storage device, or move installed apps from internal storage devices to an external storage device.
Scenario 2: The used storage space is less than 90%
If the used storage space is less than 90% but a prompt is still displayed, asking you to clean up the storage space, the possible causes are as follows.
You have visited websites that promote apps in the browser.
- EMUI 8.X and earlier: Go to Optimizer/Tablet Manager > Virus scan > Settings, and select to automatically update the virus library.
- EMUI 9.X/10.X/11.X & MagicUI 2.X/3.X/4.0: Go to Optimizer/Tablet Manager > Settings, and select auto-update or online virus scan.
- EMUI 13.0 and later: Go to Optimizer/Tablet Manager >
> Auto-update cleanup database, and set it to Wi-Fi and mobile data. This operation will consume a small amount of mobile data.
If your tablet does not support SIM cards, go to Tablet Manager >
> Auto-update cleanup database, and set it to Wi-Fi only.
