My HUAWEI phone/tablet displays a message indicating that the storage space is insufficient

If your device displays a message indicating that memory is insufficient, perform the following steps:

Open Settings and touch Storage to check the remaining storage space:

Scenario 1: The remaining storage space is insufficient (less than 10%)

If the available storage space is less than 10%, a dialog box will be displayed, asking you to clear the storage space. Perform the following steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Clean up the storage space
    • It is recommended that you follow the instructions in Clean Up Phone/Tablet Storage and use Optimizer/Tablet Manager to free up the storage space.
    • It is recommended that you uninstall apps you rarely use. Installing too many apps may consume a large amount of storage space.
    • It is recommended that you clear the Recently deleted files in Files and Gallery to free up space. (The files cannot be restored after being deleted. Exercise caution when performing this operation.)
  2. Back up Gallery data to Cloud

If the memory is insufficient, you can back up Gallery data to Cloud.

Go to Settings > HUAWEI ID > Cloud > Apps that use Cloud > Gallery, open Sync Gallery, and select the albums you wish to sync to release the local storage space.

  3. Move large files to an external memory card

If your device supports an external memory card, it is recommended that you move your photos, audio files, videos, and other files from Internal storage to a memory card to free up storage space. The operation is as follows:

Go to Files > Browse > Phone/My tablet (internal storage), touch and hold the file you want to move, and touch Move to transfer it to the external memory card.

  4. Check whether you have created sub-user accounts or PrivateSpace

Adding multiple user accounts or enabling PrivateSpace will take up storage space on your device. It is recommended that you delete a user account or delete PrivateSpace that is not often used.

Ignore this solution if a non-owner account or PrivateSpace has not been created or is not supported.

Scenario 2: The remaining storage space is sufficient (greater than 10%)

If the available storage space is greater than 10%, the possible causes are as follows:

  1. You may have accidentally visited websites that create this type of alert and are intended to promote their device optimizer apps. It is recommended that you clear the browser cache in the browser settings and then update the virus library of Optimizer/Tablet Manager to block such websites.
    • EMUI 8.X and earlier: Go to Optimizer/Tablet Manager > Virus scan > Settings, and select to automatically update the virus library.
    • EMUI 9.X/10.X/11.X & MagicUI 2.X/3.X/4.0: Go to Optimizer/Tablet Manager > Settings, and select auto-update or online virus scan.
    • EMUI 13.0 and later: Go to Optimizer/Tablet Manager > , touch Auto-update cleanup database, and set it to Wi-Fi and mobile data. This operation will consume a small amount of mobile data.

If your tablet does not support SIM cards, go to Tablet Manager > , touch Auto-update cleanup database, and set it to Wi-Fi only.

  2. If a system update on your phone is unsuccessful due to insufficient storage space, clear up storage space as prompted to make room for the update.

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance. We will do our best to address your needs.
