[HUAWEI] My watch/band doesn't vibrate or turn on its screen when receiving a new message or incoming call

Check whether your wearable device can receive messages or incoming calls. If not, refer to this article if you're using a HUAWEI or third-party Android phone and visit here if you're using an iPhone.

  • Automatic screen-on for incoming messages (when the device is worn) is available only on certain watch/band models. To check if your device supports the feature, go to Settings > Notifications and toggle on Wake screen if it's available. If you can't find such a switch, you can view notifications by raising your wrist or pressing the button to wake the screen.
  • HUAWEI WATCH 3 Series: When AOD is enabled (by going to Settings > Watch face & home and toggling on AOD), the device will automatically enter Ultra-long Battery Life mode when the screen is off, and only vibrate or ring once when receiving multiple messages within 10 seconds.
  • If your wearable device supports Bluetooth calling, it won't vibrate or ring upon receiving new messages when the connected phone is engaged in a call. In this case, you can swipe up on the device home screen to enter the message center for information access.
  • It is by design that your wearable device won't vibrate or ring to notify you of new messages during a workout session, during a measurement, or on a certain third-party app screen. However, it'll still vibrate or ring when receiving an incoming call.

*If the issue occurs in any of the following scenarios, it's normal and doesn't indicate a fault with your wearable device.

  1. Mute notifications when using phone or Smart notifications is enabled on your phone. (Such settings aren't available on iPhones and certain watch/band models.)
    • In this case, your wearable device can receive push notifications properly but will not notify you when you're using your phone (meaning your phone is unlocked with its screen on).
    • You can disable Mute notifications when using phone or Smart notifications by going to Huawei Health > Devices, entering the device details screen, and touching Notifications.

  2. Do not disturb/Do Not Disturb is enabled on your wearable device.

If this is the case, you can swipe down on the device home screen and touch Do not disturb/Do Not Disturb to exit the mode.

  3. Your wearable device is in Sleep mode or detects that you are asleep.
  4. Your wearable device is being charged.
  5. Vibration of your wearable device is set to None. If this is the case, you can adjust the vibration settings by going to Settings > Vibration.

*If the Vibration option is unavailable, it indicates that your device doesn't support vibration adjustments.

  6. Only show notifications when worn is enabled on your watch. If this is the case, you can disable the switch by going to Settings > Accessibility features > Only show notifications when worn or Settings > Notifications > Only show notifications when worn.

*If the Only show notifications when worn option is unavailable, it's by default that your device won't notify you of push notifications when it's not worn.

If the issue persists, perform the following:

  1. Update your wearable device and the Huawei Health app to their latest versions.
    • To update your device, open the Huawei Health app on your phone, touch Devices and then your device card, and touch Firmware update.

2. Restart your wearable device, and pair it again with your phone.

3. If the issue persists, set an alarm or enable Stand reminder on your wearable device, and check whether it vibrates or turns on its screen for these features.
  • If yes, contact the Huawei customer service for assistance.
  • If not, it's likely that your device's vibration motor or wear detection sensor is faulty, resulting in the failure to notify you of new messages and incoming calls. In this case, back up your data, and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
